Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are returning as Ed and Lorraine Warren

MANILA, Philippines – New Line has confirmed the development of The Conjuring 4, tapping David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick to write the screenplay for the fourth film in the horror franchise.

Johnson-McGoldrick wrote the second and third Conjuring films – The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Wan and Peter Safran will return as producers. 

Details on the movie’s plot, official cast, and release date have not been provided yet. 

The report added that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who have portrayed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in the three previous films, are expected to reprise their roles. 

In an Instagram post, Wan shared his excitement for the fourth movie. “We’ve been slowly and carefully crafting away on this. We didn’t want to rush this until we’ve got something that is worthwhile,” he wrote. 

Based on the real-life paranormal cases of investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, The Conjuring universe has become one of the largest horror franchises in the world, grossing more than $1.8 billion globally. 

The franchise’s spin-offs include Annabelle (2014), Annabelle: Creation (2017), Annabelle Comes Home (2019), and The Nun (2018). Rappler.com
