Raffy Calicdan's Philpop 2013 entry is about being in a suffocating relationship

MANILA, Philippines – Music is your soul, believes Raffy Calicdan. As your soul feels emotions, music expresses it.

“Space,” his Philpop 2013 entry, is about dealing with suffocating relationships — an experience Calicdan has gone through. It mentions all the little details of such a relationship: cellular phones (and tempers) ready to explode from a barrage of texts, and the transformation of a loved one from gentle being to paranoid fiend.

Calicdan dedicates all his musical endeavors to his mother who, ironically, has a hearing disability.

“Space” is performed by Kean Cipriano of Callalily and Kleggy of Banda Ni Kleggy.

Video transcript:

General idea ko sa music is it’s your soul.

(Singing stops)

I grew up in Bagiuo City, maaga rin nagretire yung mama ko kasi she has a hearing disability.

I dedicate my success to my mother.

Yung nasulat kong song is entitled “Space.”

Space… (Singing stops)

Sobrang gusto kong manalo. Sobrang gustong-gusto ko siyang mapanalunan. Gusto kong makuha yung grand prize, kasi once you aim, aim high.
