Martin celebrates 30 years of artistry

MANILA, Philippines – Singer-songwriter Martin Nievera celebrates 3 decades in the entertainment industry with a special concert billed, “Martin Nievera 3D: The Anniversary Concert.”

The “Concert King” began his singing career in 1982, amid the also thriving career of Bert Nievera, the renowned balladeer who is Martin’s father.

His debut album that year, “Martin…Take One,” immediately turned gold, then platinum. Martin’s sophomore album two years later, “The Best Gift,” was also a platinum seller.

The Eighties are now seen in hindsight as a lapidary milieu, wherein the music of Martin, his friend Gary Valenciano, and other artists serve as its bright-pop background, even during that politically charged era.

In the succeeding decades, Martin also branched out to hosting TV shows and acting in movies.

Among the highlights of his television career are “Penthouse Live!,” with Pops Fernandez, and “Martin After Dark.” He is currently a host at the ABS-CBN musical variety show, “ASAP 18.”

It is in recording and concerts that Martin has secured his niche in Philippine pop culture, as a flag-bearer of contemporary Filipino music or OPM.

Martin has since released more than two dozen albums, including “As Always,” “Himig ng Damdamin,” and the “Forever” trilogy.

These recordings – loosely conceptualized as a musical chronicle of the singer’s life journey – have evolved further into many engaging performances that befit his popular appellation, “Concert King.”
