MANILA, Philippines  OPM band Sponge Cola’s latest music video features a real-life couple’s wedding day, but it isn’t about just any couple. The video features lead vocalist Yael Yuzon’s very own wedding with singer-actress Karylle.

The music video, set to Sponge Cola’s song “Singapore Sling (Dahil Kilala na Kita),” featured highlights from the couple’s big day, from their preparations to the ceremony proper, and everything leading to their awaited first kiss as husband and wife.

In an interview with The Philippine Star, the couple revealed that the song is of great significance in their relationship. It was their “peg” for the wedding, said Karylle, explaining that the song “evokes a sunny day full of love.”

Indeed, several clips of Karylle and Yael dancing and goofing around complemented the jolly melody of the song.

Singapore Sling (Dahil Kilala na Kita),” Yael revealed, was inspired by their relationship while Karylle was living in Singapore for television show Kitchen Musical in 2011. Every 3 to 4 weeks for around 4 months, Yael would fly to Singapore to visit Karylle.

The song, which Yael co-wrote with bandmate Gosh Dilay, tells of the never-ending process of getting to know someone, he explained.

Dahil kilala na kita, handa na akong kilalanin ka pa. Dahil kasama na kita, ang nais ko lang, makasama ka pa.” (Now that I’ve met you, I’m ready to know you more. Now that I am with you, all I want is to be with you more.)

Both Karylle and Yael took to social media to encourage the public to watch the video.

The couple’s wedding held at the San Antonio de Padua Church in Silang, Cavite, was a star-studded affair, with the country’s biggest celebrities serving as their sponsors, bridesmaids, groomsmen, and guests. Principal sponsers included the likes of Kris Aquino, Gary Valenciano, Kim Atienza, Ryan Cayabyab, and Robin Padilla. Also present were Iza Calzado, Donna Cruz, and Karylle’s Showtime co-hosts including Vice Ganda, Billy Crawford, and Anne Curtis, among others.

In one of the day’s most memorable instances, Karylle’s mother singer-actress Zsa Zsa Padilla along with her ex-husband and Karylle’s father, Dr Modesto Tatlonghari, walked their daughter down the aisle.

Odd couple

In their reception, the couple reportedly performed a rap song as their thank you speech for their guests. Speaking to Buzz ng Bayan, actress Anne Curtis and singer Billy Crawford expressed amusement at the couple’s uncanny production.

“It’s so good to see two of the weirdest people as one now,” commented Billy Crawford on their speech. “It can’t get weirder than that.”

It seems the couple agrees that their pairing is indeed, a “weird” one.

When asked about what made her say yes, Karylle told The Philippine Star in the same interview that in addition to passing many tests, Yael is one of the few people who is aware of how weird she can get.

Yael agreed, explaining that he, too considers himself weird. “But I find her more weird,” he said.

Karylle and Yael officially became a couple in 2010. On their 3rd year anniversary, Yael proposed while the two were in a car.

The couple’s honeymoon is scheduled next month in Europe, where the two are set to attend an Eraserheads concert in London. – Rappler.com
