DJ Cedric Gervais on making music: ‘You’re never done’
The Grammy-winning DJ shares his thoughts on making the sort of music that makes people dance. Watch Rappler's exclusive video interview

BORACAY, Philippines – These days, life for electronic artist Cedric Gervais is as hyperactive as his music.

The DJ is in the middle of his world tour’s Asian leg, playing in Taipei one day and Japan the next. His on-stage schedules run one day, one country.

He arrived in Boracay, Aklan, Saturday, May 3, just 10 hours before a press conference for his performance at Nestea Beach 2014. You’d think he’d want to rest. Instead, he went jetskiing and walking around the island, enjoying the view which he called “paradise.”

Cedric is based in Miami, a famous beach city where shows near the shore are not allowed. “Playing on the beach is very special because there’s very few places in the world that you can do that. It’s very exciting to do this here,” he said.

The DJ became a household name after his remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” catapulted to the top of the charts. Since then, he’s won a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording and collaborated with everyone from Katy Perry to Miley Cyrus. His music even found its way into a Michael Bay film, “Pain and Gain”.

Rappler sat down for an exclusive interview with the unstoppable DJ. Here, he shares his experience with FIlipino fans, how he creates a track, and what he loves doing aside from music. Rappler.com
