MANILA, Philippines –Though Beethoven and Mozart lived hundreds of years ago, their music lives on. This July, fans will get to enjoy their music again, this time at an event featuring the Manila Symphony Orchestra.
Continuing to spotlight Filipino excellence in classical music and celebrating its 88th year, the Manila Symphony Orchestra is staging its Concert No. 2, ‘Eroica’ on July 5th, coinciding with the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Orchestra and Band Festival running from July 1 – 6.
‘Eroica’, meaning ‘hero’, was written by no less than Ludwig van Beethoven. Initially thinking of Napoleon Bonaparte as a hero of the people and a symbol of freedom, Beethoven originally titled the piece ‘Bounaparte,’ but after Napolean declared himself emperor and showed some less than heroic qualities, the title was changed to Eroica.
The concert will also feature works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 39 and the Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola.
The concert will feature Manila Symphony Orchestra’s regular and distinguished conductor Maestro Arturo Molina, who will be a violin soloist.
Foreign talents will also be featured, including Thanos Adamopoulos, a composer from Belgium, and his brother, Tasso Adamopoulos, viola soloist from France. – Rappler.com
