BLACPINK’s Rosé broke two new Guinness World Records following the release of her solo album R, which features the songs “On The Ground” and “Gone.”
Rosé now holds the record for the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a solo K-pop artist after the music video for her title track “On The Ground” registered 41.6 million view on its first day. It broke the previous record of 36 million views, which K-pop giant PSY held, for the hit “Gangnam Style.”
Rosé's “On The Ground” also peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. US charts on March 27, having previously topped the charts as a BLACKPINK member with “Lovesick Girls” in October 2020.
According to Guinness, this makes Rosé the first artist to reach number one on a Billboard Global chart as a soloist and as part of a group.
In a YouTube cvideo,Rosé shared the inspiration behind her solo single. “The message I want to convey to the audience listening to this song is that maybe what we’re chasing for isn’t necessarily there at the top, maybe what we truly need is already in our hands,” she said.
BLACKPINK is a four-member girl group that debuted in 2016 under YG Entertainment. Rosé is the second member to have a solo release after Jennie. Lisa is also set to have her own solo debut while Jisoo is set to star in the drama Snowdrop. As a group, they released their debut album, The Album, in October 2020. - Rappler.com
