BTS is among the 10 best pop bands of all time, according to US magazine Esquire in a ranking published on their website on January 30.

The magazine described the group as “one of the vanguard acts to pioneer K-Pop’s immeasurable worldwide success.”

“With a fanbase that is aptly described as ‘ARMY,’ BTS’s beloved septet has rapidly redefined boy bands, fandoms, and pop music itself,” it went on, and described BTS’ music as “a blend of pop, hip-hop, disco, and R&B, with catchy melodies that are often laced with social commentary-based lyrics.”

The boy band is the only act from Asia and only K-pop group to make the list, which also includes iconic artists spanning different eras: The Supremes, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Sly and the Family Stone, The Beach Boys, ABBA, The Temptations, and Destiny’s Child.

Seven-member BTS – which appeared on the cover of US Esquire’s winter 2020 edition – first debuted in 2013, and has since become one of the biggest musical acts in the world.

In 2020, the group hit several milestones – including the release of their first English-language hit “Dynamite,” their win at the MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the first all-Korean group to hit number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts, and getting a Grammy nod for “Dynamite.” – Rappler.com
