Super Junior’s ‘Super Show 7’: A love letter to fans
The K-pop great's latest concert series is a show of gratitude to all the ELFs who have been by their side through thick and thin

MANILA, Philippines – Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Donghae, and Siwon of South Korean boy band Super Junior dropped by Manila for their Super Show 7 World Tour on Saturday, June 30, and they certainly made sure it was something fans would remember for a very long time.

Super Junior has been around for almost 14 years and through the years, they’ve achieved worldwide fame, broken records, and even found the time to complete their individual mandatory military service. (READ: Beginner’s guide: Things you need to know about Super Junior)

They’ve also watched their dedicated fans, affectionately called Everlasting Friends or ELFs, grow with them.

Reading from a letter during the concert, leader Leeteuk said, “The childish young idols have become the big seniors in the K-pop scene. The same girls who have listened to Super Junior and have always cheered for Super Junior became college students, someone’s lady, and a child’s mother.

“The time passing by may be sad but natural. We were happy to share these precious memories with you all and spend the same time under the same sky. As we have more days to be together than the time we have spent together, we hope to make long-lasting, beautiful, and joyful memories together.”

Making up for lost time with music

It’s been 5 years since Super Junior last held a Super Show in Manila.

In Super Show 7, the boy band performed a medley of tunes from their newest album PLAY as well as a number of their earlier hits, including “Black Suit,” “Lo Siento,” “Sorry, Sorry,” and “Miracle.” (READ: 10 Super Junior songs you need to listen to)

In between sets, Super Junior took the time to interact with the audience, even delivering lines in full colloquial Filipino with the help of cheat sheets and prompters.

On to future shows

In the end, the Super Junior members promised to return to Manila for a bigger and better show, this time with all active members in tow.

At the end of the show, a video message to fans from Ryeowook and Kyuhyun, who are currently serving in the military, was aired. However, it featured only their voices with two of their managers standing in for them on camera.

Thousands of ELFs gathered for the two-hour long Super Show 7 held at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, a longtime fan of Super Junior herself, also graced the event and finally meet her favorite member, Siwon.

On Twitter, the hashtag #SS7Manila trended with tweets from fans both at the concert venue and at home. Here’s what PH ELFs have to say about the latest Super Junior concert:

This is the Korean boy group’s 3rd concert in the Philippines. The first was in 2010 for Super Show 3 following the success of their album “Sorry, Sorry.”

They were the first K-pop group to hold a concert in the Philippines. The second was in 2013 for Super Show 5, which gathered around 10,000 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena – Rappler.com
