MANILA, Philippines – More than anything, it was a big party.

And like the best parties, the most memorable parts were the ones that weren’t planned.

Without sounding preachy or self-righteous, the duo of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis had the Manila audience cheering on their inclusive message of equality for all, and the freedom to love – right along, of course, with quite the multimedia spectactle of costume changes, lights, videos, and fireworks, on March 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The audience sang along to hit songs like “Thrift Shop” and “Same Love,” which the duo recently performed at the Grammy Awards with Madonna and singer Mary Lambert. During the Grammys performance, Queen Latifah married off couples of varying backgrounds who agreed to be wed at the occasion.

Macklemore, who said at the concert that he had visited Manila when he was 19 years old, also said the the Pinoy audience collectively had one of the best-sounding voices he’d heard.
