Seek and Ye shall find: Kanye West officially changes name

The artist formerly known as Kanye West is now officially known as Ye, after a Los Angeles judge approved the request for a name change on October 18.

In a legal document published by TMZ, the 44-year-old artist petitioned to change his name from Kanye Omari West to just Ye – no middle name or last name.

Ye has been going by that name for a while now, using it on social media and as a title to his 2018 album. 

Ye spoke about what would become his new name at a listening party for the album Ye in 2018.

Speaking to radio host Big Boy, he said: “I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the bible, and in the bible it means you. So I’m you, I’m us. It’s us. It went from being Kanye which means ‘the only one,’ to just ‘ye’ being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. It’s just more of a reflection of who we are.”

Ye recently made headlines for his latest album Donda, which was released in August.

He is also in the middle of an ongoing divorce from Kim Kardashian, whom he married in 2014. – Rappler.com
