Music streaming platform Spotify has launched Music + Talk in the Philippines, introducing a new series of shows that combine, well, music and talk.
Launched on August 18, it was described as “a new type of audio experience,” Music + Talk combines conversations and commentary with songs on Spotify’s catalog, allowing listeners to go deeper into the music.
Through Music + Talk, people can interact with music tracks within an episode, and seamlessly like, save, and see more information about a song without leaving the episode page.
Music + Talk launches with the following shows:
- Soundtrip with Jugs & Teddy – Hosted by It’s Showtime duo Jugs Jugueta and Teddy Corpuz, the show studies classic OPM hits and the stories behind them.
- Makinig Ka Muna with Jim & Saab – Cheats musicians and husband-and-wife podcasters Jim Bacarro and Saab Magalona read out letters sent by listeners, spotlighting songs that ease the soul.
- Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Podcast – Featuring OPM institution Itchyworms, the podcast does a deep dive into their favorite tracks over the past 25 years, with their first episode focusing on their latest single, “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)!”
“Being passionate about music, we’re excited to bring Filipinos on a journey with us, giving them insights into OPM they never knew about. Music + Talk makes it easy for creators to engage listeners on a more personal level and also shine a spotlight on local Filipino musicians,” Jugs said in a press release.
“Kapag narinig nila ang kwento sa likod ng mga paborito nilang kanta (if they hear the story behind their favorite song), they will have a deeper appreciation of it,” Teddy added.
Saab also weighed in, saying “Jim and I have seen and experienced the growth of podcasting in recent years. Spotify’s Music + Talk is a game changer, allowing us to have deeper conversations on what we are passionate about – music! We can’t wait to share more about our thoughts and trivia, and bring music to life through storytelling.”
The Music + Talk format is also available to creators, who can create their own shows through Spotify’s podcast platform, Anchor.
Listeners can look for new shows under the format by searching Music + Talk on Spotify. Shows are available to both premium and free listeners. – Rappler.com
