John Legend sang of “a new dawn, a new day, a new life” as he covered a Nina Simone classic following the inauguration of United States President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday, January 20 (Thursday, January 21, Manila time).
The crooner and EGOT (Emmy Grammy Oscar Tony) winner performed “Feeling Good,” popularized by Simone, as part of the Celebrating America inaugural special. Legend sang the song from in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washngton, DC, while also playing the grand piano.
“Thank you for asking me to perform,” Legend said on Twitter, retweeting his performance from the Biden Inaugural Committee’s account.
“It was so special for me to celebrate with the nation in front of the memorial to one of our greatest presidents. And I loved honoring the late great Nina Simone, my constant source of musical inspiration,” he said.
Artists including Bruce Springsteen, the Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato, and Katy Perry also made appearances at the concert.
Legend actively supported Biden and Harris throughout their campaign, even speaking at a rally last November to pledge his support and call out Biden’s rival, Donald Trump. – Rappler.com
