Wanna One to reunite at 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards

Heads up Wannables, the Wanna One reunion we’ve been waiting for is finally happening!

According to South Korean news portal Soompi, Wanna One is confirmed to perform at the 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), which will happen on December 11. 

The report published on Monday, November 15 said that the 2021 MAMA organizers announced that Wanna One is included in the performer line-up for the award ceremony, together with the dance crews of the hit show Street Woman Fighter. 

“They will be preparing a special performance that will thrill music fans,” the organizers were quoted as saying. 

It remains unclear whether all members will take part in the reunion. 

Wanna One is an 11-member boy group that was formed on the reality competition show Produce 101 Season 2. The group was made up of Kang Daniel, Park Ji-hoon, Kim Jae-hwan, Ong Seong-wu, Lai Kuanlin, Yoon Ji-sung, Minhyun, Bae Jin-young, Ha Sung-woon, Lee Dae-hwi, and Park Woo-jin.

They debuted in August 2017 and disbanded in December 2018 when their contracts expired. Since the group’s disbandment, Wanna One members have pursued solo careers, debuted in new groups, or returned to their former groups. 

The upcoming event marks Wanna One’s first time coming together as a group in almost three years since they held their final concert in January 2019. 

Prior to the confirmation, CJ ENM, the agency who handled Wanna One during their promotions, has previously commented on the group’s possible reunion. 

“We are having positive discussions about various plans including the Mnet Asian Music Awards, a concert, and an album involving all of the Wanna One members,” the label said in a Soompi report.
