MANILA, Philippines – Zild has released Medisina, his third solo album, and first under his new label, Island Records Philippines.
Launched on Monday, October 31 after being in the making for a year, the album contains 11 tracks, performed and mostly produced by Zild himself, true to the DIY approach he’s taken for his past two albums.
As an album, Medisina has strong post-punk and new wave vibes in the vein of Joy Division, but with a touch of the funk playfulness that has followed Zild since his days with his former band, IV of Spades.
He takes on various themes in the album – from a love like an addiction in the title track “Medisina,” to history violently repeating itself in “Dekada ’70.”
“It is about mundane, youthful emotions, friendship/community, insecurities, childhood nostalgia, and post-teen feelings,” he said in a tweet.
“Growing up in the city and traveling around Cubao or Manila is a huge inspiration of this record,” he added.
Zild said that he plans to do a launch tour for the album in November, as well as release lyric videos and music videos for his favorite tracks.
