New Year's Eve song from Zooey Deschanel, Joseph Gordon-Levitt

MANILA, Philippines - On December 31, 2012 at 2:30 am (Manila time), New Girl producer and star Zooey Deschanel shared a link on her Facebook page to a YouTube video she recorded with 500 Days of Summer co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt in December 2011: their rendition of the Nancy Wilson original, "What are You Doing on New Year's Eve?"

Fans of the real-life best pals have been dreaming of the two ending up together, especially since Deschanel's divorce to Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard was finalized earlier in December 2012, after a year of being separated.

In an interview Gordon-Levitt gave Playboy that was featured in Huffington Post last August, he said that dating his equally-talented (and cute) bestie would be "awkward":

"It’s awkward when people say that. Whatever. Zooey and I just think it’s funny. It is funny," he told Playboy.

"We’ve been friends for 10 years. She loves movies, music and art, and she’s incredibly knowledgeable about that stuff. She’s turned me on to so many good movies and so much good music. It’s fun just to have conversations, watch movies with her and stuff like that."

Deschanel, meanwhile, wrote about her friendship with Gordon-Levitt in the YouTube post:

"I have known Joe Gordon-Levitt for going on 12 years. We first met in the summer of 2000 while doing a tiny movie called Manic, where we bonded over a mutual appreciation for Harry Nilsson and Nina Simone and I have been lucky enough to call him one of my dearest friends ever since. When we did 500 Days of Summer 8 years later, we spent every lunch hour dancing to Marvin Gaye in the hair and make up trailer; we had loads of fun. I hope to do a thousand more movies with him because he's simply the best. But in the meantime, we made a little New Year's duet for all of you! The original by Nancy Wilson. ENJOY!"

The homemade video may be over a year old, but fans still gush about the duo in Deschanel's 2012 Facebook repost:

"still love this :) you two should do more collaborations," (sic) said fan Ashley Zinnamon.

"Omg ....Never thought a guy would be good enough for Zooey...but this guy would make a good case!! they should be together," (sic) said Diana Marshall.

"Please get married and have beautiful, talented children together," posted Christine McRee.

Gordon-Levitt recently appeared in The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush and Looper. He is also in the film Lincoln as Robert Todd Lincoln, the first son of President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd.

He also runs a music website, hitRECord.

Deschanel, who is active on social media, is also one-half of the indie duo She & Him with composer and actor M. Ward. She's the younger sister of Bones lead actress Emily Deschanel and was ranked #17 by AskMen.com for their "top 99 most desirable women for 2013."

Watch her sing "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with comedian Will Ferreli in 2003 Christmas film, Elf:
