PLL's season 6 answers one of the show's biggest mysteries

MANILA, Philippines – We finally know who A is! For those of you who have been following along with Pretty Little Liars – or given up on knowing A’s true identity – the show aired its 6th mid-season finale on Tuesday, August 11 (US time) and answered the show’s biggest question: Who is A?

Aside from what was revealed in the latest episode, showrunner Marlene King also sat down with Entertainment Weekly and shed some light on the show’s unresolved mysteries.

A is Cece Drake. Cece is Charles DiLaurentis, Alison’s older brother. Charles was sent to Radley Sanatorium when he was younger because he had allegedly tried to drown a baby Alison. However, Charles insisted that it was an innocent accident and that his father sent him to Radley because he identified as a girl. Charles transitioned to Charlotte shortly before he left Radley for college. He started going by the name Cece when he met his siblings, Alison and Jason DiLaurentis.

A number of people have previously been thought to be A or acted as if they were A. These include Hanna’s friend Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish), Spencer’s boyfriend Toby Cavanaugh, and Spencer.

Mona was revealed to be A in season 2, as she bullied Alison as A before Alison went missing.

Toby was thought to be A in season 3, but he was actually working for A as a double agent to help the girls.

It was revealed later in the 3rd season that Spencer was also working for A, but only to see if Toby was alive and to find out A’s true identity.

Pretty Little Liars  is a TV show based on a book series of the same name. It follows the lives of Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale), Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson), Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell), and Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario) after their friend, Alison DiLaurentis, goes missing. A year after Alison’s disappearance, the friends begin to receive threatening messages – all signed “A” – about secrets that only Alison knew.
