'Coco' features the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead. More details here
MANILA, Philippines – We finally know a little more about the new Pixar film in the works! Pixar announced the title of the movie at the D23 Expo on August 14 (August 15 in Manila): Coco, based on the Mexican holiday Dia de Muertos or Day of the Dead.

Coco will be directed by Lee Unkrich and produced by Darla Anderson, who both worked on Toy Story 3.

Here’s a poster together with the other posters in the upcoming Pixar lineup:

The film is about a 12-year-old boy named Miguel, who grew up in rural Mexico. He sparks a chain of events linked to “a generations-old mystery that forever changes his fate,” according to IGN. The film will explore Miguel’s family history as well.

IGN also said that the clip shown at the film featured skeletons dancing to mariachi band music, when a skeleton mask falls off to reveal Miguel.

No release date has been set for Coco yet.
