One year after ‘The Voice Kids PH,’ catch up with season 1’s final 4
One year after the season 1 finals, how are Lyca, Darren, JK and Darlene doing?

MANILA, Philippines – As the final performances of the Top 4 of the Voice Kids season 2 approaches, a new set of golden voices will take centerstage. But before Esang, Reynan, Sassa and Elha take the spotlight, let’s take a look at the blooming careers of season 1’s final 4. (FULL RECAP: ‘The Voice Kids’ grand finale weekend)

Lyca Gairanod

Lyca has been doing well since becoming the first winner of the Voice Kids. She released her solo album Puede Nang Mangarap middle of this year. She is also part of the Voice Kids compilation album.

Aside from her album, Lyca had the opportunity to perform “Tell The World of His Love” before a huge crowd at the meeting of the families at the Mall of Asia last January, during the visit of Pope Francis.

Lyca’s story has also been featured in Maalaala Mo Kaya. She’s also performed in concerts with the rest of the season one winners and appeared in a Jolibee commercial with Sarah Geronimo and Darren Espanto. Lyca has also traveled to Australia and Canada for a series of concerts.

Darren Espanto

Darren’s career is booming after his second place finish on the show. He staged his first concert at the Music Museum last year entitled Darren Espanto: The Total Performance. He also performed at the 4th annual Outstanding Filipino-Americans (TOFA) event in New York.

In January 2015, he performed before Pope Francis at the University of Sto.Tomas. In February, he also performed with  X-Factor Australia winner Marlisa Punzalan during her visit to the country. He also staged a birthday concert at the Mall of Asia Arena last May. Darren continues to be busy with out of town performances as well as performances abroad. He also serves as a junior reporter alongside Robi Domingo on the livestream of the Voice Kids.

Juan Karlo Labajo

Juan Karlos “JK” Labajo emerged as the 3rd runner-up in season 1. Although he has performed with the rest of the winners, JK found himself more focused on acting. After The Voice Kids, he appeared in Hawak Kamay and Ipaglaban Mo. He also appeared as a guest along with Darren Espanto on KrisTV.

JK also released his album JK under MCA Universal. He is also part of the Voice Kids compilation album with Lyca, Darren and Darlene.
JK is currently part of Pangako Sa’Yo, where he plays one of Kathryn Bernardo’s closest friends.

Fans can also follow his everyday antics on Instagram. Here’s just one of many cute photos he’s posted:

Darlene Vibares
Known as the Girl on Fire of Team Lea, Darlene, like the rest of the kids, has been busy traveling around the country for a series of concerts. She was recently part of the lineup of performers in Tuguegarao along with The Voice PH Season 2 winner Jason Dy and season 1 Mitoy Yonting.
Darlene also turned 11 years old this year, celebrating her birthday last March.  She also posted some of the songs she covers on the website darlenevibares.com which include Jessie J’s “Flashlight,” Lea Salonga’s version of “On My Own” from Les Miserables and Yeng Constantino’s “Ikaw.”

With the kids of season one moving on to do great things, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for this season’s group of performers.
And with the finals days ahead, who will emerge victorious? Will Team Lea win this season or will Team Bamboo finally emerge victorious? The singing competition heats up but one thing’s for sure – the season 2 Top 4 will join the kids of season 1 in forming another talented pool of Filipino singers. – Rappler.com
