Pastillas Girl Angelica Jane Yap delivers eulogy for slain mom

MANILA, Philippines – Teresa Hernandez, the mother of Pastillas Girl Angelica Yap, was laid to rest on Sunday, December 6, a week after she was shot dead by an unidentified person while eating out with one of her daughters.

In her eulogy posted on ABS-CBN, Angelica, wearing a white shirt with the words Hustiya Para kay Teresa (Justice for Teresa) paid tribute to her mother and thanked everyone for condoling with the family.

“Gusto ko muna pong magpasalamat sa lahat na nakiramay sa pagkamatay ng mommy ko. Sa mga tumulong, nagpapasalamat po ang buong pamilya namin sa inyo,” she said. 

(I want to thank everyone who condoled with us. To those who helped us, our family says thanks to all of you.)

“Si mommy napakamasayahin, at the same time lonely. Naalala ko noon na lagi kaming nag-aaway kahit maliit na bagay. Alam naman ng lahat kung gaano kadaldal at kaingay si Mommy,” Angelica said as she became emotional. 

(Mommy was a very joyful person, at the same time lonely. I remember the times when we would argue a lot over small things. We all know how talkative and noisy Mommy is.)

She recalled the times that her mom would just call her up to scold her. She said that it used to annoy her, but now that her mom is no longer around, she will miss it.  She also said that what made her mom simmer down during their arguments was gossip.

“Sobrang tahimik na ng bahay namin. Siguro nga totoo yung sinasabi nila na nasa huli ang pagsisisi. Tsaka mo na lang mari-realize ang kahalagahan ng isang tao, kapag wala na siya sa ‘yo,” she said. (Our house is so quiet now. I guess it’s true what they say, that you regret in the end. That’s when you realize the importance of a person, when they’re gone.)

“Ngayon naiisip ko, paano kung nasabi ko sa kanya kung gaano ko siya kamahal? Paano kung mas binigyan ko siya ng atensiyon? Paano kung naging mas mabuting anak ako sa kanya?” Angelica said as started to cry. (Now I’m thinking, what if I said how much I love her? What if I gave her enough attention? What if I became a good daughter to her?)

Angelica said that she’s happy that her mom is in a better place, and should not worry about her and her siblings. 

“Napakabuti mong tao, Mommy. Hindi ko man maintindihan kung bakit nangyayari ito sa ating lahat, siguro nga may magandang plano ang Diyos. (You are a very good person, Mommy. I cannot understand why this happened to us, but I guess God has good plans.)

“Siguro nga napakabuti mong tao kaya ka kinuha kaagad ni Lord. Pero sana ngayon na kapiling ka niya, huwag na huwag mo na kaming alalahanin Mommy. Kami na po ang bahala sa lahat. Pipilitin po namin na maging maayos para huwag na po niyo kaming alalahanin,” she said. (I guess you are a good person that’s why God took you immediately. But now that you’re with Him, don’t worry about us anymore. We will take care of ourselves. We will try to be better for you not to be worried.)

In an interview with Rappler, Senior Superintendent Bart Bustamante said that the police are using a computerized facial composite (CFC) to identify the suspect.
