Fil-Aussie Robertino Zambrano's film shortlisted for Oscars 2016
MANILA, Philippines – There's another Filipino artist making waves in the international scene – Filipino-Australian animation director Robertino Zambrano's film was shortlisted in the Animated Short Film category of the 2016 Oscars.
The shortlist for nominees in the Animated Short Film category was released on November 19.
Robertinos' film, Love in the time of March Madness, was co-directed with Melissa Johnson. It follows a character named Melissa Johnson, who hit 6'4" in the 8th grade. The "tall short" follows the basketball star as she tries her luck at love. Watch the trailer below:
Love in the Time of March Madness won and was nominated for many other awards. In 2014, it won Best Short Film (Online Festival) at the Tribeca Film Festival. This year, it won Beset Documentary Short at the Animatou Animation Festival.
According to his website, the Sydney-based Robertino is an animation director and designer.
He also directed and animated this TED Ed video in 2013, titled, The Science of Stage Fright. It's competing in the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.
The final list of Oscar nominees will be announced on January 14, 2016. The awards night will be held on February 28, Eastern time.
