Liz Uy on complaint against Fashion Pulis

'Checking your facts right is something you must do before you say you are a writer,' Liz says about the libel complaint against blogger Michael Sy Lim

MANILA, Philippines – Fashion stylist Liz Uy said that the libel complaint against Fashion Pulis blogger Michael Sy Lim is now in the hands of her lawyers, and spoke a little bit about the issue in a short interview with the media during the Ariel Power Gel launch Friday, January 29. (READ: Liz Uy files libel, slander complaint vs Fashion Pulis: 10 things to know)

Iniwan ko na siya sa lawyer ko. Nagpunta na naman ako doon once sa prosecutor, tapos sila naman ang pupunta doon, the other camp, and I don’t know what’s going to happen next,” she said.

(I left it with my lawyer. I already went there once, to the prosecutor and they, the other camp, will have to go there now, and I don’t know what’s going to happen next.)

Last November 9, Liz filed 6 counts of libel against Michael after he accused Liz of making Eat Bulaga‘s Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza wear outfits that have been worn by other people before.

Maine wore one outfit to the Tamang Panahon event held at the Philippine Arena, while she wore another for her cover on Preview magazine.

During the Tamang Panahon event, Maine wore a pink gown by Francis Libiran, which actress Kim Chiu modeled previously. On the Preview cover, Maine was wearing a jacket in a style that Liz was spotted wearing.

Michael has released a statement since the case was filed, saying that he was disappointed about the turn of events and that he will fight for what he said was the right to freedom of expression.

Asked to comment on Michael’s statement, Liz said: “Okay naman. I have nothing against freedom of expression because lahat naman talaga tayo meron nun (all of us have it). But, checking your facts right is something that you must do before you say you are a writer. And fact checking is so easy. He could have asked me directly.

“It’s false. I mean especially when he said I styled daw Maine for Preview, on the cover of Preview, but I wasn’t there and they can all attest to it. So parang for me it’s really just fact checking before you post anything,” Liz added. It was Liz’s brother, Vince Uy, who styled Maine for the cover.

Aside from the libel complaints, Liz also filed a slander complaint against Michael, after Liz’s friends Isabelle Daza and Preview‘s incoming editor-in-chief Isha Andaya said they overheard the blogger criticizing Liz in front of other people during an event at the Peninsula Manila.

In August, Michael was arrested over a libel complaint filed by Deniece Cornejo because Michael posted a medical report on his blog, that was allegedly leaked by Healthway. On December 3, the two reconciled, with Deniece’s lawyer Ferdinand Topacio saying that they were withdrawing the case. – Rappler.com
