In a series of tweets released on Friday, February 12, Kanye explained that not only did he get his wife, Kim Kardashian West’s permission to rap the line, “I feel like me and Taylor might have sex / I made that b-tch famous,” but he got Taylor’s too.

“First thing is I’m an artist and as an artist I will express how I feel with no censorship.

“Second thing, I asked my wife for her blessings and she was cool with it.

“Third thing, I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings,” he said.








 

He also said that the line was Taylor’s idea in the first place, as she had once said, “I can’t be mad at Kanye because he made me famous!”







“Stop trying to demonize real artist. Stop trying to compromise art,” Kanye continued, saying that it’s a constant problem in music nowadays. 














 

But in an earlier statement sent to media outlets, a rep for Taylor clarified her side of the story. 

“Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that b-tch famous,'” said a rep for Taylor via statement issued to Entertainment Weekly.

The line Kanye rapped in “Famous” received flak on social media after The Life of Pablo preview was livestreamed on Tidal on Thursday, February 11.

The negative reaction online was increased by Taylor’s brother, Austin Kingsley Swift’s Instagram video. In it, he throws away his Yeezy Boosts, and the video is captioned, “Getting a head start on some spring cleaning. Here we go again.”
