Zsa Zsa says she will just surprise everyone about her upcoming wedding to fiance Conrad Onglao

MANILA, Philippines – Singer-actress Zsa Zsa Padilla said that she has yet to finalize all the details for her wedding to architect Conrad Onglao.

In a interview with reporters during the press conference for The Story of Us on Tuesday, March 8, Zsa Zsa said that some of those details will be kept under wraps.

“[The wedding will be] this year, pero (but) surprise. Pati sa kanya (For him it’s also a), surprise. Sabi ko, akong bahala (I told him I’ll take care of it),” she said.

According to Zsa Zsa, she and Conrad are not planning a big wedding and only want their kids to be present during the big day.

She also said she really doesn’t want to discuss the plans, since she got traumatized a few years back, when she was allowed to marry the late comedy king Dolphy, only for it to be halted due to a court decision.

Zsa Zsa’s annulment to ex-husband Modesto Tatlonghari was finalized in 2011, but before she could marry Dolphy, he died in 2012.

Sa edad ko hindi na, kasi na pepressure ako na may masaktan.

(At my age I’m not really [excited] because I get pressured that I might hurt people.)

“At saka may hindi maimbita ‘di ba and I don’t want it to be big kasi hindi ko naman ito first wedding and di naman nya ito first wedding,” she said.

(And there might be some people who are not invited and I don’t want it big because this is not my first wedding and this is not also his first wedding.)

Kapag nagpaplano ako, natu-trauma ako, e, parang nane-nega na ako na hindi matuloy, baka may mangyari,” Zsa Zsa explained.

(When I plan, I get traumatized, so I start being negative that it might not push through, that it might not happen.)

Sabi ko, siguro kung bibiglain ko na lang. Pati siya mabibigla na lang.”

(So I said, I guess it will just be quite sudden. So even he will be surprised.)

Last September, Zsa Zsa announced that she and Conrad were engaged after dating for more than a year.

Zsa Zsa was previously married to Modesto Tatlonghari, a dentist, with whom she has a daughter, Karylle. Zsa Zsa has two children with Dolphy – Nicole and Zia Quizon.

Conrad has two children from his previous marriage to architect Ivy Almario.

On family life

As for her daughter Karylle, Zsa Zsa said she is not pressuring her eldest to have a baby. Karylle is married to Sponge Cola vocalist Yael Yuzon.

Mahirap iyon eh. Alam ko yung pressure na iyon kasi when I tried to get pregnant with Zia two years iyon (That’s very difficult. I know the pressure because I was pressured for two years when I tried to get pregnant with Zia). So I would know how it feels. So I think, when she’s ready,” she said.

When asked if she’s ready to become a grandmother, Zsa Zsa said: “Gusto ko naman magka-apo pero mahirap mangkulit kasi s‘ympre, may mga bagay-bagay ( Of course I want to have a grandchild but’s hard to keep nagging because there are so many things involved).

On Francis Pasion and working conditions in the industry

Zsa Zsa shared that at the beginning of her relationship with Conrad, he had to adjust to her work load and challenging working hours.

I was on the thick of Dyesebel nung bago yung relasyon namin and sabi niya ‘Oh my God, I have newfound respect for your job. Kasi nakikita nya yung finished product hindi niya alam yung working hours,” she said.

She also gave her opinion about the working conditions in the industry, following the death of director Francis Xavier Pasion who died due to cardiac arrest on Sunday, March 6. The two worked together on Dyesebel.

Ang nangyayari kasi…ang observe ko ganito na nga ang oras, medyo ungodly na nga oras ng taping lalo na pag may deadline lalo na for airing kahit kami may 2am na cut off hindi nasusunod iyan kapag for airing na.

(What’s happening actually… what I’ve observed is that this is the time, the hours are already ungoldy when taping esepcially when there is a deadline for airing and even us, who has a 2 am cut off, it’s not being followed because their is a scheduled time for airing.)

Talagang iniintindi naman namin iyon because it’s part of the job. But the thing is lang talaga, ang nangyayari kasi is ang mga production ang nakikita ko sa kanila, ang na oobserba ko sa mga kasamahan ko yung lifestyle nila, is dinadaan nila sa kain,” Zsa Zsa said.

(We just understand it because it’s part of the job. Bu the thing is what happens with the production, what I see, what I observe with my peers is they try to make up for the lifestyle through eating.)

She also said that she’s looking forward to the day when the entertainment industry will have a good working system just like in Korea.

Yung work hours sana nga lalo tayo sa Philippines, believe na believe ako sa mga teleserye natin. Talagang pinapanood ito worldwide na at napapanood at na mamarket na rin so sana ang dream ko talaga, katulad sa Korea, naka-can na,” she said, adding that she hopes that time will come when the people behind the show are confident of the stories they tell.

(The work hours, I hope so especially in the Philippines. I’m so impressed with how we work on our teleseryes. It’s watched worldwide and it’s already being marketed abroad, so I my dream is like that in Korea, where it’s already canned.)

After Francis’ death, filmmakers like Quark Henares brought up the issue of overwork in the television industry. Aside from Francis, directors Wenn Deramas and Gilbert Perez also died due to cardiac arrest. (READ: Film, TV industry mourns death of director Francis Xavier Pasion)

Zsa Zsa is currently preparing for her upcoming shows abroad and can be seen in The Story of Us, starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim. – Rappler.com
