'House of Cards' star Robin Wright is in talks to join Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in the sequel to 'Blade Runner'

LOS ANGELES, USA – House of Cards star Robin Wright is in negotiations to join Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in the sequel to cult sci-fi classic Blade Runner, its producers said on Thursday.

Alcon Entertainment did not reveal plot details or Wright’s character, but said the new movie would be set several decades after the original, with principal photography starting in July.

Ford, 73, will reprise his role from the 1982 original as a police officer forced out of retirement to hunt for humanoid robots in 2019 Los Angeles.

Alcon originally announced in 2011 it would make the follow-up, as yet unnamed, with British filmmaker Ridley Scott.

Co-founders Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove said however Sicario director Denis Villeneuve would now be taking the helm, with an expected release date of January 2018.

Blade Runner originally opened to disappointing box office sales, but over time became a cult classic.

Sony Pictures will distribute the sequel in all overseas territories with domestic output falling to Warner Bros.

Wright, who turns 50 on April 8, won a Golden Globe as scheming first lady Claire Underwood in Netflix hit series House of Cards. She appears next year in Wonder Woman, the latest of Warner’s DC Comics live-action adaptations. – Rappler.com
