8 fun facts: Arci Muñoz

Rob Reyes

Arci talks about being a rock singer, working with Jericho Rosales, losing her dad, and the ups and downs of her career so far

MANILA, Philippines – With her role in soap Pasion de Amor, movies Always Be My Maybe with Gerald Anderson, and the hit Camp Sawi, under her belt, Arci Muñoz is on a roll.

2016 is turning out to be her year, especially with new drama Magpahanggang Wakas – pairing her up with Jericho Rosales – coming soon. Here are some fun facts about the rising star:

1. She is part of a band. Arci is not only an actress, she’s into music, too. She is the lead singer of the rock group Philia and they have been together for 9 years now, performing at various gigs. While she is known as Arci Muñoz on TV, she switches to Ramona Thornes when she’s playing. (WATCH: Arci Muñoz rocks out to Disney songs – heavy metal style)

“That’s my persona even before I was Arci,” she said of Philia and Ramona during the Dickies launch last March. “That’s my first love – music, rock music in particular. I’ve been with my boys for 9 years now and we already came out with one album, one music video…”

“Ramona’s like weirder side of Arci. Darker side,” she added.

2. She is a Theater Arts graduate.  Arci graduated with a Theater Arts degree from the University of the Philippines. In 2005, Arci got her career started as part of Starstruck. Although she did not win the title, she appeared in a number of shows before transferring to TV5, where she  appeared in shows such as Mga Nagbabagang Bulaklak and Felina: Prinsesa ng mga Pusa.

In 2015, Arci played the role of Norma Elizondo in Pasion de Amor opposite Jake Cuenca. The show aired on ABS-CBN.

3. She almost gave up her career in showbiz. – Prior to doing the role of Norma in Pasion de Amor, Arci admitted she considered giving up her showbiz career. In an interview on Aquino and Abunda Tonight last year. Arci talked about a point in her career after a failed audition for Two Wives

“When they asked me to do the audition, they called me after a week and they were like, ‘Arci may bago kaming show pero para alam mo hindi ka natanggap sa Two Wives. Pero ito, may isang show, gusto mo ba mag-audition? Pero kailangan ka namin i-makeover, hindi ka pwede naka platinum blond hair,” she said.

(We have a new show but just to let you know, you did not make it to Two Wives. But we have a new show, do you want to audition? But we need for you to get a makeover, you cannot have platinum blond hair.)

She later then decided to go to the audition as a last try.

“If not, wala, (nothing),” Arci said, adding she was going to continue with her band Philia.

4. She was very close to her dad. Early this year, Arci lost one of the most important people in her life – her dad. In an interview on the May issue of Metro magazine, Arci admitted it was very painful for her since she was working when dad passed away.

Ang hirap. (It’s so hard.) I didn’t see him before he passed. For a month or two, I didn’t see him. When I did , he was comatose na.”

“Losing my Dad was my greatest fear. I lost him already. It happened already. There’s nothing left to be afraid of,” she said.

5. She loves to play dress-up – check out her various outfits on social media. On Instagram, Arci loves posting photos of her various outfits and looks, especially on Halloween.

6. She is happy in love. Arci has been in a relationship for 3 years with boyfriend Badi del Rosario aka Bone Frankestein, member of the group Mr. Bones and the Boneyard Circus.

In an interview last March during a launch for Dickies, Arci said of her relationship with Bone: I’m just thankful na he’s very understanding kasi alam mo naman, lalo na ‘pag ‘yung partner mo hindi naman siya from showbiz, hindi niya naiintindihan usually. Pero siya, ‘pag ine-explain ko ay naiintindihan naman niya. He’s supportive.”

7. She injured her nose before doing Pasion de Amor. In an interview on Kris TV last March, Arci recalled how she injured her nose and part of her eye while headbanging in one of the concerts she did with Philia.

Lumiit na siya (it’s gotten smaller),” Arci pointing near the side of her nose and close to the mouth and left eye.

Di ko na nga naramdaman kahit walang nang anesthesia. (I did not feel it anymore even without anesthesia),” she said after she was taken to the hospital.

8. On working with Jericho Rosales. After Pasion de Amor, Arci did her first movie with Gerald Anderson called Always Be My Maybe, directed by Dan Villegas. She also starred alongside Bela Padilla, Andi Eigenmann, and Yassi Pressman in Camp Sawi. Now, Arci is set to star along with Jericho Rosales and John Estrada in the new drama Magpahanggang Wakas.

Arci has nothing but great things to say about Echo.

Kay Echo, wala ako masabi diyan,” Arci joked. “Sobrang galing ni Echo. And he makes me work harder, na paghusayan ko pa yung acting ko, and everything.

(With Echo, I have nothing to say. Echo is great. And he makes me work harder, to make my acting better and everything.)

“Siya na yata yung pinaka humble na nakatrabaho ko. Sobrang humble, sobrang galing. Pagdating niya sa set, babatiin niya lahat, [he’s so] professional,” she said.

(I think he’s the most humble person I’ve worked with. He’s so humble, he’s so good. When he arrives at the set, he would greet everyone, [he’s so] professional.)

In Magpahanggang Wakas, Arci plays Aryann, who falls in love with Waldo, played by Jericho. After Waldo was jailed for saving her from being raped, Aryann tries to help him by working on various jobs to pay for his bail. She then witnesses Waldo being shot and falling from the cliff. Grieving for his death, she moves on with her life, and years later finds out that he’s still alive.

Now enjoying her successes and new projects, Arci said she is just grateful for the blessings she’s been getting.

“I’m just really thankful for everything. And I believe na everything that’s happening to me right now, si papa. Si papa ginaguide niya ako. Because my dad just passed he just passed away last February, while I was doing Always Be My Maybe.

(I’m just really thankful for everything. And I believe that everything that’s happening to right now, is papa. My papa is the one guiding me. Because my dad just passed away last February, while I was doing Always Be My Maybe.)

“And then after that, ang ganda na ng takbo ng lahat ko, ng lahat. So feeling ko, alam ko, nararamdaman ko na ginaguide niya ako. And I’m really really thankful. Alam ko si Lord, prinipare niya ako sa tagal ng hinintay ko, journey ko para mas maging mabuti ako sa craft ko,” she said.

(And then after that, everything went well, everything. So I feel and I know, I feel that he’s guiding me. And I’m really really thankful. I know the Lord prepared me because of how long I’ve waited, the journey to make sure my craft is better.)

In an interview with Inside Showbiz, she said that despite the success she’s reaping in acting, she will not allow herself to succumb to the demands despite being her passion.

“I don’t consider myself a celebrity, I’m just an ordinary girl with an extraordinary job, and I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to do what I love,” she said.  – Rappler.com
