The proclamation was made early Tuesday morning, May 10, in front of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in front of the Board of Canvassers.

Based on 100% of the results that were transmitted, the newly-proclaimed mayor emerged triumphant with 53,234 (54.2%) of the votes, compared with the incumbent mayor, Liberal Party (LP) candidate Codilla (44,453, 45.2%) and Independent candidate Gallardo (608, 0.6%).

Gomez previously ran for mayor in 2013 but lost to Codilla. He also said that he will have to take a break from showbiz should he be elected.

“We have to [stop acting], because if I win as mayor, it is a full-time job,” he told Rappler in a mix of Filipino and English during a previous interview. (READ: Why Richard Gomez is running for mayor of Ormoc)

“This will be the priority. And I’ve spoken to ABS-CBN about it. I have contracts remaining there, and, sabi ko (I said), next time na lang yon.”

His wife, Lucy Torres-Gomez, currently leads with 60.8% of the votes in the race for the position of Representative in the 4th District of Ormoc City. She is a candidate under the Liberal Party. – Rappler.com
