MANILA, Philippines – Following her win as Best Actress at this year’s Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Ma’ Rosa by Brillante Mendoza, Jaclyn Jose shared that she was able to briefly interact some of this year’s jury members.

At the homecoming dinner for the cast and crew of the movie Wednesday, May 25, held at the Makati Shangri-La, Jaclyn said that she was able to speak with some of them, including Hollywood actress Kirsten Dunst, after she received her award.

The 2016 jury, headed by Max Max director George Miller, is comprised of: actors Kirsten Dunst, Valeria Golino, Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Paradis, and Donald Sutherland; directors Arnaud Desplechin and László Nemes; and producer Katayoon Shahabi.

“Nung dinala na nila ako with this [trophy], somewhere else, kasabay ko yung mga jury [members] sa malaking elevator,” Jaclyn narrated.

(When they brought me somewhere else with this trophy, I was with the the jury members in a huge elevator.)

“Kaharap ko si Kirsten Dunst at gustung-gusto niya yung film.” (I was facing Kirsten Dunst, and she really liked the film.)

“‘Yung talagang gustung-gusto niya. So I can tell na yung mga jury, pati na si Donald Sutherland, lahat pati yung French actor [Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen] na nagbigay nung trophy, lahat sila nag-cocongratulate.”

(So I can tell that the jury: Donald Sutherland – all of them… Even Mads Mikkelsen, who gave me the trophy – all of them were congratulating me.)

Jaclyn continued, “So I feel welcome. Like nung awards night, welcome yung atmosphere.” (So I felt welcome. Like during the awards night, the atmosphere was welcoming.)

“Parang for them to welcome you – these people who attended the premiere night, nanggaling ito sa iba’t-ibang lugar ng Europe. They go there to watch there film talaga. Talagang manonood ito ng mga pelikula.

(So for them to welcome you – these people who attended the premiere night, they came from different parts of Europe. They go there to really watch the films.)

“Kaya para sa kanila na tumayo at pumalakpak nang mahigit na 7 minutes, na nangaling pa sa iba’t-ibang parte ng Europe, ito sila, they love cinema – talagang overwhelming yung feeling.”

(For them to stand up and clap more than 7 minutes – these people who came from different parts of Europe, who love cinema – I really felt overwhelmed.)

Narrating her encounter with Kirsten, The Millionaire’s Wife star proudly said, “Rubbing elbows kami ni Kirsten Dunst eh.” 

“Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘I’m a fan since ‘I want more,'” Jaclyn said, referring to one of Kirsten’s lines in the movie Interview with the Vampire.

(Kirsten Dunst and I were rubbing elbows. I told her, “I’ve been a fan since ‘I want more.'”)

She continued, “Sabi niya, ‘Oh, the vampire’ (She said, ‘Oh, the vampire’).”

In an interview with Pep during the press conference for her new show on GMA 7, A1 Ko Sa’Yo, Jaclyn said that Kirsten was touched by her acceptance speech. 

“She was touched because she thought it was a beautiful speech and that grabbing of my daughter’s hand – my not letting go of my daughter – dun daw ang emotions nila (that was an emotional moment for them).”

Kristen, who is known for movies such as Marie Antoinette, Spider-Man, and Jumanji, won the Best Actress at the same festival in 2011 for her performance in Lars von Trier’s Melancholia.

On daughter Andi Eigenmann, after Cannes

About her daughter Andi Eigenmann, who was with her at Cannes, Jaclyn said that she’s sure that her daughter also hopes to achieve the same success as her. “I am sure si Andi wants to… marating din yung narating ko (I am sure Andi wants to achieve what I have achieved),” she said. 

Jaclyn said in jest, “Pero ang sabi naman niya nung kakakuha ko pa lang nito – sabi niya, ‘Mapupunta rin naman iyan sa akin.‘”

“Ngayon pa nga, gusto niya dalhin na niya sa bahay niya. Sabi ko, ‘Teka lang. Painitin mo muna sa bahay ko.'”

(Even right now, she already wants to bring it home. I said, ‘Just wait. Let this stay in my house first.’)

She also said that Andi was the reason why she agreed to appear in Ma’ Rosa, where her real-life daughter also plays one of her character’s children: “Yung isa kong objective why I accepted the movie with Andi [was] for a chance to bring her or introduce her internationally.” (IN PHOTOS: Andi Eigenmann shares awesome moments from Cannes 2016)

“Si Andi okay iyan (Andi is okay). She will try her best, strive hard, and work hard,” she said. “But at the end of the day, walang competition at alam niya lahat ng ito sa kanya rin pati jewelry” – she quipped.

(But at the end of the day, there really is no competition, and she knows all of this will go to her, even the jewelry.)

At the press conference, Jaclyn was also asked if her role in Ma’Rosa was her most challenging one to date.

“This is different. Lahat naman iyan iba’t-iba ,” she said. “Tulad rin ng mga dati kong nagawa: Sarong Banggi, isa sa favorite ko. Yung mga ginagawa namin indie ni Dante. [There was also] Takaw Tukso, mga ganun.”

(All of these characters are surely different. Sarong Banggi was one of my favorites. The other indie movies Dante [Brillante] and I made. There was also Takaw Tukso, films like that.)

“Pare-pareho iyan. Basta trinabaho mo ang isang trabaho – may nakuha kang award or wala – basta’t masaya kang umuwi at alam mong, I did a good job today, kontento ka na doon bilang actor,” she said. 

(All of them are the same. For as long as I worked hard – whether I get an award or nothing – as long as I go home happy and know that I did a good job, I am already contented as an actor.)
