WATCH: That time Bamboo’s chair wouldn’t turn on ‘The Voice Kids’

MANILA, Philippines – A young man who enjoys Argentine tango got the attention of Bamboo during the blind auditions of The Voice Kids Philippines Saturday, July 9. 

Kyle Mallari – who many believe has a resemblance to, and voice like The Voice Kids runner-up Darren Espanto – performed “Skyscaper.”

Bamboo then pressed the button to turn but didn’t – even after repeatedly pressing it. He eventually stood up, faced Kyle and sat down to hear him continue singing.

Bamboo, who was the only coach to turn, gave his comments to Kyle.

“Yung umpisa mo, you were shaky, I thought you were having a difficult time even with the time, like a rhythmic lead. Parang wala ka doon,” Bamboo said. (Your start was shaky…It was like you weren’t there.)

He continued, “But when the song reached up, peaked up, I liked what I heard. Maganda yung richness, yung kulay ng boses mo (The richness, the color in your voice is beautiful).” 

Judge Lea Salonga said she heard the change of tone in Kyle’s voice and attributed it to his growing up as a teen, while Sharon Cuneta said she believes Bamboo saw something he can work on with Kyle.
