Tres Kantos wins ‘We Love OPM: The Celebrity Sing-Offs’
Jovit Baldivino, Bugoy Drilon, and Dominador Aviola are the first grand celebrity team winners of the show

MANILA, Philippines – Tres Kantos, the group of Jovit Baldivino, Bugoy Drilon, and Dominador “Daddy D” Aviola, won the first celebrity edition of We Love OPM, Sunday, July 17, at the Newport Theater at Resorts World Manila.

Mentored by singer Erik Santos, the group performed “Nais Ko,” written by Ryan Cayabyab, who was also a guest judge in the finale.

Tres Kantos won over Oh My Girls composed of Ylona Garcia, Krissha Viaje, and Alexa Ilacad, and O Diva composed of Klarisse de Guzman, Emannuelle Vera, and Liezel Garcia.

In an interview with reporters after the competition, both Bugoy and Jovit said they were overwhelmed.

Sobrang saya, kaba, excitement, at happiness. Halo-halo, mixed emotions,” Bugoy said.

(So much joy, nervousness, excitement, and happiness. Mixed emotions.)

Hindi namin talaga ma-explain… grabe this is my second na naging grand champion and ngayon sobrang naramdaman ko ulit ‘yung parang lumalaban,” Jovit said.

(We really cannot explain how we feel… This is my second time to be named grand champion and now, I feel the fighting spirit again.)

Parang nasa competition ulit,” Bugoy added. (It’s like we’re in a competition all over again.)

Bugoy and Jovit were products of singing contests, with Jovit winning the first Pilipinas Got Talent search, and Bugoy part of Pinoy Dream Academy.

Daddy D, who became a familiar face on It’s Showtime’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan” portion, said he was very grateful for the opportunity.

Erik, meanwhile, said that he himself learned a lot as a mentor on the show.

(You know, I’ve learned so much from this show. I’m so grateful that I was part of this great show called ‘We Love OPM.’ And I’ve learned so much from mentoring. I discovered so much about myself, the weaknesses and strengths of each of my members. I also learned how to teach them every song assigned to us every week.)

Stressful siya, mahirap siya… pero nakakaya nila kasi itong tatlong ito, sobrang coachable sila, ang babait nila, professional sila, alam natin iyan. Masunurin sila,” Erik said.

(It’s stressful, it’s difficult… but they were able to do it because these 3, they are coachable, they are nice, they are professional, we all know that. They also know how to follow instructions.)

The group won P2 million, with half to be given to their chosen charity. –Rappler.com
