WATCH: Stars do '22 push-up challenge' to raise awareness for veterans
MANILA, Philippines – Many Hollywood stars are joining the #22pushupchallenge social media movement, posting videos of themselves doing push-ups to raise awareness for veterans killed by suicide each day.
The number 22 refers to a Suicide Data Report that says that in the US, an estimated 22 veterans are estimated to have died by suicide per day in the calendar year of 2010.
According to 22kill.com, where you can find more information about the movement, the challenge is about starting the conversation on veteran suicide prevention and awareness. Their goal is to reach 22 million push-ups.
Stars and other social media users are doing the challenge and then nominating their friends and colleagues to do the same, similar to the ALS Ice Bucket challenge back in 2014.
Here's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's video – he was challenged by Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt:
#22PushUpChallenge Raising awareness for our 22 US vets who commit suicide daily. If you're a vet and you're going thru it, just know we're thinking about you and you're not alone. Be strong, have faith, keep fighting that good fight and there's always a better day. I challenge my boys @kevinhart4real and @justinjames99 as well as our history making first black OLYMPIC Gold medalist in swimming @swimone13. Thanks to my bud @prattprattpratt for passin' the torch and Hobbs the beast for the bad breath kisses. I'll take em all day
