Check out Heart Evangelista’s line of hand-painted bags
Heart is scheduled to hold the 'Carry Your HeART' exhibit featuring her hand-painted bags on September 3

MANILA, Philippines – Actress Heart Evangelista is also exploring her artistic side this year with a number of projects. After collaborating with designer Mark Bumgarner early this year for a fashion show, where she painted some of his outfits, and a makeup line with Happy Skin, Heart will showcase her art via the hand-painted bags created for some of her clients.

The exhibit entitled Carry Your HeART will be held at the Volkswagen Showroom, Bonifacio Global Center on September 3. It will run until September 9.

During a press conference last Tuesday, August 16, Heart shared that after she accidentally stained one of her Hermes bags and was looking for a way to repair it, she saw a photo of Kim Kardashian’s hand-painted bag, and it gave her an idea.

“I saw Kim Kardashian and she was wearing a painted bag, a Birkin, and it was auctioned. Oh my god, that’s such a good way to cover the stain and so I researched. It took some time before I got the right paint, which I’ll never reveal…,” she said.

“So I painted on the bag and then I got a lot of comments about it. And I got comments from Hong Kong, Dubai, and it’s crazy…,” she said, adding she was going to save up for another bag to paint at that time.

“Because I want it to be original, I want it to be different. I want to wear my personality on my bag. Your bag says so much about your personality. So might as well put a stamp on it of who you are,” she said.

Since painting bags, Heart has been getting a lot of inquiries. Check out some of the bags she has painted. A few are part of the exhibit.

Business ventures

Aside from her art exhibits, Heart is also taping for her soap Juan Happy Love Story together with Dennis Trillo.

Heart, who got married to Chiz Escudero in 2015, said that she did have to adjust to life as a politician’s wife, but working in showbiz has helped her a lot. She gave a little update about her and Chiz at the event, too.

“You have a supportive husband. I think that’s the best thing I can say. You don’t have someone that’s selfish with what you need to do. And I have time for him and I have time for what I need to do, eventually have a baby and stuff, and spend time for yourself,” she said.

With regard to the various projects lined up, Heart said it helps that her parents are very business-minded, thus she is learning to develop her brand. She also looks up to a number of Hollywood celebrities and socialites.

“My parents are very business-minded. So I guess I grew up on how to develop a brand or branding. So medyo iyon din ang kinalakihan ko. (So I did grow up with those concepts.)

Currently, Heart said she is working on a limited edition of clutch bags. She is also working on two books, one with her mom Cecille on cooking. Her other book This Is Me, Love Marie, which was published last year is also still doing well.

“I won’t come up with a lot so seasonal lang siya,” Heart said. “By the end of the month, I’ll be launching a perfume line, so it has my artwork on it. Like wine bottles, you have a limited edition stickers with the paint on it, something like that. So it’s a collectible. Hopefully, I’m going to start working on a home line. So yeah a lot, so I’m pacing myself, making sure, I don’t get too excited.”

Heart also said that she and her good friend Kat Cruz are also working on a clothing line which will involve the basic neutral colors of black and white.

Although she is busy with her art, Heart said she will not forget her first love, which is acting.

“I think I’ll never forget my first love. Before I thought I would slow down, but I think it keeps me going. I’ll probably do one soap a year or one soap in two years depending if I have a baby or whatever. But definitely, I’ll concetrate more with developing the brand. But hindi ko rin naman tatalikuran yung mga fans ko… it’s still my first love,” she said. (I won’t turn my back on my fans…this is still my first love.) – Rappler.com
