MANILA, Philippines – Actress Maritoni Fernandez and her family have released a statement, following the death of Maritoni’s sister Ma. Aurora Moynihan, who was shot dead on Saturday, September 10.

In the statement posted on PEP, Fernandez said that the family is asking the public to respect their privacy.

“We ask the public at this time to respect our need for privacy so that we may continue to heal in our own way,” she said.

Fernandez also said that they will not issue any more statements, to let the police to do their job and not to “jeopardize the integrity of this inquiry.”

She also said that the main focus of the family right now is on the children of her sister.

“In the early hours of September 10th, we lost my sister Aurora Moynihan,” goes the statement.

“We as a family have one priority and truth at this point in time and that is to protect her children from further pain and suffering so that they, and we as a family may take this time to grieve, mourn but most of all celebrate the life of this exceptional human being I will forever have the privilege of calling my sister,” Maritoni said, thanking everyone for their understanding.

According to a report from TV Patrol on Monday, September 11, Quezon City police said that Moynihan died from multiple gunshot wounds. Her name was not on the QC drug watch list, according to the report, but was on the list of Taguig police, and was allegedly a member of a syndicate.

The report also said that Moynihan and some of her companions were arrested in February 2013 in a drug den in barangay Sta Ana, Taguig City. Moynihan was released on bail.

Moynihan’s body was found in the corner of Temple Drive and Giraffe street in Barangay Ugong Norte in Quezon City, according to police officer 3 Anthony Tejerero, in a report from The Philippine Star.
