Marian Rivera talks motherhood, baby Zia entering showbiz
Marian Rivera opens up about the challenges and fulfillment she gets from being a mom, and her one condition before baby Zia can follow in her and dad Dingdong Dantes' footsteps

MANILA, Philippines – Marian Rivera has been a mom for 10 months, and she’s loving it. (LOOK: Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes post photos of baby Maria Letizia)

The actress and new Avon spokesperson shared with the press on Friday, September 9, that it’s been equal parts fulfilling and challenging to raise her 10-month-old daughter Maria Letizia (also known as Zia) with her husband Dingdong Dantes.

One of the biggest challenges she’s encountered: breastfeeding. She still does it to this day, and hopes to continue doing so, but it’s not as easy as it seems.

“Hindi talaga biro magpadede, ta’s nagtratrabaho pa ako. Ta’s nagka ipin pa siya, Diyos ko! Nagtumbling talaga ako,” said Marian to the amused press. “Pero sabi ko nga lahat pwede, lahat posible basta love mo talaga yung ginagawa mo at para sa anak mo. Sabi ko nga paninindigan ko kasi magte-ten months na yung anak ko, still, nadede pa rin siya sa’kin na walang formula.”

(Breastfeeding is no joke, and I’m working too. And then she got teeth, my God! It drove me crazy. But I like I said, everything is okay, everything is possible as long as you love what you’re doing and it’s for your child. I said I’m really going to commit to it, because my daughter is almost 10 months and still, I still breastfeed her without the help of formula.)

Marian added that after the event, she was still going to pump in the car instead of resting.

Still, it’s all worth it for Marian, who thinks motherhood is perfect for her: “Para sa akin, kapag naging nanay ka, tapos yung anak mo sinasabi na yung salitang ‘mom,’ at nararamdaman mo na kailangan ka niya, parang talagang priceless.”

(For me, when you become a mom, and your child can already say the word ‘mom,’ and you can feel that they need you, that’s what’s really priceless.)

Marian admitted that her showbiz career has taken a bit of a backseat now that she has a baby. Aside from hosting GMA’s Sunday Pinasaya, Marian also has an occassional appearance on Encantadia as Ynang Reyna.

“Pero still, nasa dugo pa rin, hinahanap pa rin ng katawan, magtratrabaho at magtratrabaho pa rin. Pero siguro more time pa rin para sa anak ko, kasi maliit pa,” said Marian, adding that she’ll be able to take on more projects once Zia is older and understands better why her mom has to work.

(Pero still, it’s in my blood, my body still looks for it, to keep on working. But I guess I’ll still give more time to my daughter, because she’s still small.)

It might take a while, though, for Marian to get back into showbiz full time, given her plans for more kids. She wants her next one to have a two-year age gap with Zia, and she says she wants 4 or 5 kids in total.

On Zia entering showbiz

Marian says she’s close to her daughter, who at 10 months, is a happy baby going through pre-school. She added that Zia loves to dance and loves music – she bounces or “headbangs” to the beat – something she gets from both Marian and Dingdong.

She added that in class, Zia’s teachers say she’s very observant and sweet, and not afraid to talk and mingle with the other kids.

Will Marian and Dingdong let Zia enter showbiz too? She can be anything she wants, Marian said, on one condition: she has to finish school.

“Mahirap kasi sasabihin ngayon na yung anak ko gusto ko ganito ang gagawin, siyempre yung habang tumatagal at tumatanda, siya ang magdedecide para sa sarili niya. Basta andito lang kami ng tatay niya para gabayan siya. Pero kung ako talaga ang masusunod, iba talaga ang may pinag-aralan at kailangan makatapos talaga siya ng pag-aaral niya.”

(It’s hard to say right now that I want my child to do this and that, of course as time goes on and she grows older, she’ll decide for herself. No matter what, her dad and I are here to guide her. But if it were up to me, it’s really different when you’re educated and she has to really finish school.)

“Iyan ang gusto kong matutunan ng anak ko, na ang pag-aaral ay isa sa pinaka importante dapat na ginagawa sa buhay ng isang tao. At dapat niya gawin iyan,” Marian added.

(That’s what I want my daughter to learn, that an education is one of the most important things that a person will do in his life. And she has to do it.) – Rappler.com
