WATCH: ‘Avengers,’ other stars blast Donald Trump, urge people to vote

MANILA, Philippines – In the first video in director Joss Whedon’s new political action committee (PAC) Save the Day, the Avengers stars and many more encouraged Americans to vote.

Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, and Don Cheadle from the Avengers movies are joined by Neil Patrick Harris, Julianne Moore, James Franco, and many more, for a total of 27 Hollywood actors in “Important,” which was released on Wednesday, September 21.

In “Important,” a series of different actors repeat the same message in several cutaways: “You might think it’s not important, you might think you’re not important but that’s not true. And the only way we can prove that is to have a lot of famous people repeating how important it is. Register. Vote.”

“Important” urged Americans to register and vote – against US presidential candidate Donald Trump – with a touch of humor, joking that if enough people registered, Mark Ruffalo will do a nude scene in his next movie.

On the anti-Trump sentiment, the actors said: “But you only get this many famous people together if the issue’s one that truly matters to all of us: a disease, or an ecological crisis, or a racist, abusive coward who could permanently damage the fabric of our society. Do the math. Do we really want to give nuclear weapons to a man whose signature move is firing things?”

Aside from the not-so-subtle hints at Trump’s comments against immigrants and his famous line from his show The Apprentice, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) also says that Save the Day has donated $1 million to Clinton’s campaign.

THR also reported that Whedon stopped writing his next script after Avengers: Age of Ultron and started working on Save the Day, together with executive director Ben Sheehan (Funny or Die) and head of media partnerships Carri Twigg, who worked for the public engagement office of US Vice President Joe Biden.

Save the Day’s website describes itself: “We are a short-form digital production company dedicated to the idea that voting is a necessary and heroic act.”

THR says that Save the Day isn’t likely to continue past the US election season. Voting in the US falls on November 8. – Rappler.com
