Disney confirms 'Lion King' live-action remake
MANILA, Philippines – Disney's The Lion King is getting the live-action treatment!
Following the success of The Jungle Book's live-action remake, Disney confirmed on Wednesday, September 28, that they're set to recreate 1994 classic The Lion King too.
According to the announcement on their website, Disney is working with The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau once again: "We can officially confirm that The Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau are putting a new reimagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production."
Jon also directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2, and is directing the sequel to The Jungle Book. On the day of the announcement, he tweeted, "Excited for my next project," along with lion and crown emojis.

When The Lion King was released, it grossed $968.8 million in the box office and has won many awards, including Academy Awards for the original song "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" (Tim Rice, Elton John) and its original score by Hans Zimmer.
Disney has not set a release date for The Lion King.
