MANILA, Philippines – Veteran actress Lolita Rodriguez, who starred in movies such as Ina, Kapatid, Anak, Cofradia, and Ang Anak ni Brocka, died on Monday, November 28, in California. She was 81 years old.

According to a report from Pep, Lolita died after suffering a stroke two months ago. 

Eduardo Perez Blanco, a relative of the actress announced her death on Facebook.

“Sad day. My grandaunt, iconic actress Miss Lolita Rodriguez, one of the greatest Philippine movie artists of all time, passed away last night. Let us pray for her,” he said. 

 

 

 

Singer Radha, the granddaugther of Lolita, has yet to give a statement, but changed her profile picture on Facebook to that of her grandmother. Radha is the daughter of Lolita’s son Eduardo. 

 

Hailed as one of the country’s top actresses of her time, Lolita Rodriguez, born Dolores Marquez Clark, started her career when she appeared in the movie Ang Ating Pag-Ibig in 1953. It starred the late Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran, parents of master rapper Francis Magalona. She also appeared in films with Dolphy, Gloria Romero, and Eddie Garcia. 

Lolita also got to work with acclaimed director Lino Brocka in the movie Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang in 1974. Among her several awards are FAMAS awards for Gilda and Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang.
