Why Ruffa Gutierrez wrote 'Truth and Lies My Mother Told Me'
MANILA, Philippines – Ruffa Gutierrez is an actress, beauty queen, philanthropist, producer, and endorser, and now author, with the release of her book Truth and Lies My Mother Told Me.
In an interview with reporters during the book launch on Tuesday, November 29, Ruffa said that she partly wrote the book to serve as a reminder for her two daughters – Lorin and Venice.
"I told them that I was dedicating it to them and I want them to learn from my mistakes, I want them to learn from my journey in life," Ruffa said.
"And alam ko naman na lahat ng pinagdaanan ko at lahat na nangyari sa buhay ko (And I know that everything I've been through in my life), it made me the woman that I am today. So I want my daughters to know that you don’t need a man in order to survive."
Ruffa added: "What’s important is you love yourself first [be]cause kapag minahal mo ang sarili mo (if you love yourself), it’s so easy for you to love other people.
"So I want them to be leaders, I want them to be strong women."
Ruffa said the book was already in the works but it took a while for it to come out because she was busy with other ventures. She also had to revisit some of the most painful moments in her life.
"Actually, iyon ang pinakamahirap. Papaano ko ikukuwento yung bahagi na iyon ng buhay ko na ingat ng ingat ako na wala ako masaktan and at the same time, hindi ako nagsisinungaling sa publiko.
(Actually, that was the hard part. How will I talk about that part of my life that I'm so careful about, that no one will get hurt and at the same time, I'm not lying to the public?)
"I believe there are some things na talagang... I remember that time hindi ko ma-explain lahat sa mga interviews ko noon sa The Buzz so, I think with this book, you will learn more. Na maintindihan ninyo yung pinagdaanan ko na kaya ganun pala si Ruffa," she said.
(I remember that time I could not fully explain my interviews on The Buzz, so I think with this book, you will learn more. You will understand what I've been through that's why Ruffa was like that.)
She also said that she's dedicating the book to her single friends.
"Para ito sa lahat ng mga taong gustong umibig. (This is for everyone who wants to love). You can love at any age," she said.
A sequel to the book is also possible, according to Ruffa.
Although she and her mom Annabelle Rama are known to have a complicated relationship, Ruffa said she has learned so much from her – including lessons that now help her with her own daughters.
"Marami akong natutunan sa nanay ko especially now that my girls are 12 and 13. I always say nga na tama pala yung paghihigpit ni Mommy. Maybe she expresses it herself in a way na minsan hindi ko naiintindihan and minsan nagkakaroon kami ng mga sagutan, but I know she has the best interest in heart for me. Alam ko she wants the best for me," she said.
(I've learned so much from my mom now that especially my girls are 12 and 13. I always say that mommy was right in being strict. Maybe she expresses it herself in a way that I cannot understand and sometimes we get into arguments, but I know she has the best interests at heart for me. I know she wants the best for me.)
As for her personal life, Ruffa said that she's in a great place. She is currently in a relationship with businessman Jordan Mouyal.
"I’m happy in love. I’m balanced. I think when you fall in love, it should be balanced. Pangit naman ang isa pag-ibig na you and me against the world. Hindi na uso iyon. Kailangan the love of your life should fit in to your life as well. Syempre may mga anak ako, may career ako. Hindi naman pwede puro love, love, love kasi wala kang makain sa table… everything has to be balanced," she said.
(It wouldn't be good if the love you have is a you-and-me-against-the-world kind. That's not really in anymore. The love of your life should fit into your life as well. Of course I have my kids, my career. It should not be just all about love, love, love because you don't have any food on the table...everything has to be balanced.) – Rappler.com
