Sharon Cuneta to star in romantic comedy with Robin Padilla, JoshLia
Sharon says she's excited to be reunited with Robin after their last movie, 'Pagdating ng Panahon,' in 2001

MANILA, Philippines – Fresh off the success of her first independent film, Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha, Sharon Cuneta gears up for yet another movie with Robin Padilla under Star Cinema, slated for release in November. The yet-untitled romantic comedy also stars Julia Baretto and Joshua Garcia.

In an interview during the blog conference on Sunday, September 3, Sharon said her excitement about the project doubled when it was confirmed that she’d be working alongside Robin.

“It’s a very nice story. Rom-com. ‘Yun ang uso ngayon (That’s the trend now). People like a feel-good movie nowadays. Good vibes lang (only) and Robin and I have that kind of thing going. We’ve always had that in our movies. Lagi kaming rom-com (We’ve always done rom-com),” she shared.

Although it has been 16 years since their last movie, Pagdating ng Panahon (2001), Sharon shared that her friendship with Robin has not wavered.

“He’s been in my life forever. Pareho kami ng sense of humor, believe it or not. Saka malalim si Robin ‘pag seryoso ‘yung usapan,” she said, adding that they know each other so well that they can finish each other’s sentences.

(He’s been in my life forever. Actually, we call each other, twin. We both have the same sense of humor, believe it or not. And Robin is a very deep person when the discussion is serious.)

Hahaha! Thank you again, my Robin. Love u always. Hahaha!  @robinhoodpadilla

Pinakamasayang set ko ay laging movie with Robin. No offense to the others. Robin is just a different kind of creature, just like I am. He’s just as passionate as I am in everything I do. Mababaw din yan, mababaw din ang emosyon. Pareho kaming malalim na mababaw,” she said.

(My happiest set is always a movie with Robin. No offense to others. Robin is just a different kind of creature just like I am. He’s just as passionate as I am in everything I do. He’s also easy to please and very emotional. We’re both deep and easy to please.)

“It’s always a happy happy set. Very down to earth kasi si Robin, walang ere (It’s always a happy set. We would eat together along with the drivers, my yaya as in together. Robin’s very down to eath. He’s not arrogant.)

In August, Robin went out of his way to share a review of Sharon’s latest movie and even promoted it online – a gesture that Sharon greatly appreciated.

“It was touching. ‘Di naman niya kailangan mag-comment pa about it. Manood ka lang tapos text me about it. (He should not even comment about it. All he had to do was watch and text me about it) That’s my Robin. That’s my friend.”

Sharon is also excited to be working alongside Cathy Garcia-Molina, who was her assistant director in Madrasta and Minsan, Minahal Kita. A self-confessed fan of the director’s work, Sharon shared that she has watched all of her films to date. Among her favorites were those starring Bea Alonzo, John Lloyd Cruz, Liza Soberano, and Toni Gonzaga.

On her relationship with Gabby Concepcion

Meanwhile, fans who are still waiting for a Sharon and Gabby Concepcion reunion movie will have to wait a bit longer. When she took to Instagram to thank her ex-husband for the unexpected durian package, many wondered if it’s a sign that the two are working on a project together. Sharon, however, quickly denied the speculations, adding that she lost contact with Gabby through the years.

Nag-thank you lang ako [tapos] deadma na. ‘Di ko alam kung sumagot siya. Ayoko na malaman. Okay na. Kahit kay KC, di na ko nagtanong. Wala kaming communication. Sadly, I can’t say we’re friends. I can’t say naman na magka-away kami. Wala lang.”

(I just said thank you and that was it. I don’t know if he replied. I don’t want to know. It’s okay. Even with KC, I don’t ask. We have no communication. Sadly, I can’t say we’re friends. I can’t say that we’re enemies. Nothing, really.)

When asked why her movie with Gabby did not push through, Sharon said that she’s just as confused as everyone.

“Hindi naman kami nag-usap before that eh. Always through Tita Malou (Santos) and Inang (Olivia Lamasan) lang nababalitan ko tapos biglang umiba.

(We did not even talk before that. I always get updated through Tita Malou (Santos) and Inang (Olivia Lamasan)  and then it changed. I don’t want to meddle because they’re the ones talking about it. I’m just like, collateral damage because my schedule for the year got ruined.)

Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha will be shown nationwide starting September 6. – Rappler.com
