Sunshine Cruz says relationship with Macky Mathay has daughters’ approval
MANILA, Philippines – Sunshine Cruz is very happy with her relationship with Macky Mathay. Five years after her split from estranged husband Cesar Montano, the actress is more than ready to move on, with her 3 daughters’ approval.
During her contract signing under ALV Talent Circuit on Thursday, September 14, Sunshine said that she felt blessed to have found someone like Macky who accepts her and her daughters.
“It’s not perfect, but I’m very happy now. I feel blessed na merong isang tao na hindi lang sa akin nagmamahal kundi sa mga anak ko, na tinatrato sila na parang mga anak rin (that there's a person who doesn't only love me but my kids as well, and who treats them like his own),” she said.
Sunshine added that Macky has been very supportive of her career, a trait she appreciates. (READ: Macky Mathay confirms he and Sunshine Cruz are dating)
“Masarap na merong isang tao na sumusuporta sa 'yo. Tanggap ka, pati mga anak mo, tanggap yung nakaraan mo. So, very happy lang (It feels good to have someone who supports you. He has accepted it, even my children and my past. So I'm very just happy)," she said.
Although there are still some who bash their relationship online, Sunshine said that it no longer affects her. What’s important is that she’s able to share her happiness to the world.
“Basta ang importante sa amin, especially sa akin, as long as wala akong sinasaktan na tao, kaligayahan 'nyo yan eh. Paano kung bukas mawala na ako? [At least] naramdaman at naipakita ko naman ‘yung kaligayahan ko na ‘yun sa ibang tao.”
(What's important for us, especially for me, is as long as I'm not hurting anyone, that's my source of joy. What if I'm not here tomorrow? [At least] I was able to feel and show my happiness to that other person.)
Angelina, Samantha, and Francheska, her 3 daughters with Cesar, have all given their stamp of approval to Sunshine and Macky’s relationship. According to her, her daughters were actually the ones who pushed her to start dating again after the split.
“Approve na approve (They totally approve)! Actually, when I got separated, a year or two na nahiwalay ako (into the separation), they were pushing me to date. Siguro kasi nakikita nila 'yung kabilang side happy na nagde-date. [They said] ‘Ma, you should date. You’re just working. You have to date.’ Sabi ko, ‘Wag kayo magmadali, anak wala pa,'" she added.
(I guess they saw the other one happily dating. [They said] 'Ma you should date. You're just working. You have to date. I told them, 'Don't rush. I haven't found the right person.)
“[Now,] they say that they are very happy for me kasi nakikita naman nila ‘yung (because they see the) happiness at the same time nakikita nila yung pagiging (they see the) genuine so they approve," she added.
Sunshine admits that being a single mom has been very challenging but it definitely has its rewards. Seeing her kids grow up into smart, well-mannered, independent individuals make her the happiest.
“Alam naman ng mga bata talaga na kailangan nila ang (The kids know that they need) advice. Thankful and blessed talaga na nakikinig, nagtitiwala, at nirerespeto nila ang bawat sabihin ko sa kanila (that they listen, trust, and respect everything I tell them).”
Although her daughters are not necessarily looking for a father figure at the moment, Sunshine mentioned that she would appreciate if Cesar would exert more effort to be with their children. She pointed out that he is welcome to call and visit their kids anytime he wants.
"I just hope that there will be an effort from the father. Sino ba naman ang nanay na ayaw na may relasyon ang tatay sa mga anak, ‘di ba I just hope that there will be an effort from the father. Why would a mother not want for her children to have a relationship with their father right)?"
What’s next for Sunshine
With Arnold Vegafria as her new manager (she was formerly under the late Alfie Lorenzo), Sunshine is ready to take on more projects. Arnold teased that there could be a reunion concert of the Cruz cousins – with Geneva, Sheryl, and Donna – alongside a new movie and an upcoming big endorsement.
Sunshine revealed that she’s excited to accept more challenging roles, with playing the role of a mistress ranking high in her bucket list.
“Mistress. Dream ko ‘yun. Gusto ko maging kontrabida. Isa yun sa nasa bucket list ko. ‘Yung ako naman ‘yung mananampal hindi yung ako yung sinasampal (I want to play the role of a mistress. That's my dream. I want to do kontrabida roles. That's in my bucket list. I want to be the one to slap, not the one being slapped)," she said. – Rappler.com
