MANILA, Philippines – Actor and TV host Vhong Navarro thanked the Department of Justice on Friday, September 22, after it junked the rape and attempted rape complaints filed against him by Deniece Cornejo.
In a statement sent to ABS-CBN by Navarro’s manager, director Chito Roño, he said that the It’s Showtime host was “grateful” for the news.
“Vhong Navarro is grateful and overwhelmed by [the] DOJ decision dismissing rape charges against him,” the director said.
Vhong’s lawyer Alma Mallonga also told ABS-CBN that they were pleased with the decision to dismiss the complaint against him.
“We are very happy that the DOJ has finally dismissed the rape complaint filed by Deniece against Vhong, the 3rd in a series of failed attempts, to do him harm through a palpably and demonstrably false accusation.
“The fight continues with respect to the trial of cases of serious illegal detention and grave coercion filed by Vhong against Deniece and her co-accused. We are grateful to the DOJ,” she said.
The Department of Justice on Friday announced the junking of Cornejo’s complaint that she was raped by Navarro her condo on January 2014. According to a report from PEP, the resolution, which was dated September 6 said that the statements by Cornejo on Navarro were “incredible.” The resolution also indicated that Cornejo “suffers from a very serious credibility issue.”
The same report also said that Cornejo showed inconsistent actions “for someone who said she was raped.”
Two previous rape cases by Cornejo also against Navarro – one in April, and another one in July 2014 –were also dismmised by the DOJ. – Rappler.com
