Actress Isabel Granada dies at 41

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Actress Isabel Granada died in Qatar more than a week after she collapsed in Doha during an event and went into a coma. She was 41 years old.

Her partner, Arnel Cowley, confirmed the actress’ death on his Facebook page past midnight Sunday, November 5, according to Pep.

“It is with great sadness that my wife Isabel Granada has peacefully passed here in Doha Qatar,” Arnel said.

“She has been a fantastic wife, mother and daughter. She always did her best in everything she did, whether it be in front of a camera or sports,” he added.

He thanked the Filipino community in Doha, Qatar, where Isabel collapsed, was hospitalized, and eventually passed on.

“I would also like to take this time to thank the Filipino community in Doha for giving their full support throughout this difficult time for myself and the family,” Arnel said.

To Isabel, Arnel said: “Baby..wherever you might be..just always remember that I LOVE YOU. and I miss you very much.” 

Isabel’s ex-husband, Jericho Aguas, also posted a tribute for her. 

“Malaki ang naging parte mo sa aking buhay. Binigyan mo ako ng isang gwapo’t matalinong anak, makulay ang 14 yrs nating pagsasama. Sa lahat mula sa aking puso’t kaluluwa. maraming maraming salamat. Pahinga ka na. paalam Isa.”

(You were a big part of my life. You gave me a handsome and smart son, our 14 years of togetherness was colorful. From the bottom of my heart and soul, thank you so much. Time to rest and goodbye Isa.)

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Jericho said: “Iyong heart niya, nag-clog na po lahat kaninang mga 6:30 [pm, Doha time] po siguro. Hindi ko na po naisip iyong oras, 6:30 to 6:45 pm, mga ganoon.”

(Her heart became clogged around 6:30 pm. I could not remember the exact time, but I think it was between 6:30 to 6:45 pm.)

“Pero on record po, she was declared brain dead since October 27, around 12 noon. Since then, machine na lang po talaga ang nagki-keep ng kanyang heartbeat, heart rate, at mga medication.”

Isabel’s former love team partner, Chuckie Dreyfus, also bid the actress farewell.

On October 25, Granada was rushed to a hospital in Doha, where she and Cowley were attended the Philippine Trade and Tourism Conference. Granada started her career as part of German Moreno’s That’s Entertainment appeared in a number of shows and was known for tandem with actor Chuckie Dreyfus in the ’80s. – Rappler.com
