Jameson Blake appeals to ElNella fans: Give ‘So Connected’ tandem a chance

Janella Salvador, Jameson's partner in the movie 'So Connected,' says that onscreen partner Elmo Magalona has no issues that she's paired with another leading man

MANILA, Philippines – Jameson Blake can’t seem to catch a break. From getting bashed by ElNella fans to getting called out for allegedly treating movies as a sideline, the Pinoy Big Brother alum is battling intrigue after intrigue.

During the press conference for his new movie, So Connected, Jameson admitted that he received quite a bit of negative comments from unhappy Elnella fans who were disappointed to see Janella paired with him rather than Elmo Magalona.

Hindi ako masyadong sanay sa bashing pero I started experiencing it noong sa  team up namin (I’m not used to the bashing but I started experiencing it with our team up) and they said some hurtful words. But then, I can’t really do anything because that’s their opinion, what they think,” he said.

According to Jameson, die-hard fans of the love team resorted to calling him names, saying that he’s only using Janella for fame. He recounted that during his co-star’s birthday, Elnella fans got upset by his simple birthday greeting, thinking that he only saw this as an opportunity to promote the movie.

“There was this time when I greeted Janella sa Instagram and I used her name [in the movie] Tricia and people were thinking that I was promoting the movie. They’re telling me, why don’t I just let Janella enjoy her day with Elmo and stuff, which I don’t really mind.”

“They were saying na user ako, ganyan, na ginagamit ko lang siya para sumikat ako (that I’m a user, things like that, that I’m using her to become famous). I don’t know. They have to take it so far just because of a simple birthday greeting and, you know, I don’t know – it’s just too much. I think they’re overreacting and I wasn’t basically promoting the movie. Well, what’s wrong with promoting the movie? It’s actually coming out and I just wanted to greet her but they just took it too far. So I don’t know what’s wrong with them,” he lamented.

Jameson appealed to fans that before they bash the movie, they should at least give it a chance. He added that they were just doing their jobs as actors.

“I’m just doing my job, whatever comes, all the opportunities that I can, I’ll do it and it’s my job as an artist to do what I have to do. So if they think badly about it, it’s up to them, it’s their opinion. Ako kasi (Me) as a person, I just don’t really care talaga, peaceful ako, deadma lang ako sa mga ganoon (I’m a peaceful person and just ignore those things.)”

Meanwhile, when asked what Elmo thought of the pairing, Janella explained that Elmo also had no issues with Jameson being her new leading man.

“He has no bad blood. Very reasonable about it and supportive naman siya, wala naman siyang problema kay Jameson kasi alam naman nila na work talaga is work, personal is personal (He [Elmo] is very reasonable and has no problem with Jameson because he knows work is work, personal is personal.)

While this new pairing doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s over for ElNella, Janella admitted that working with a different actor has been a good experience for her.

DIFFERENT PAIR UP. Janella Salvador says she initially felt weird to be working with another partner but eventually warmed up to it.

“Actually, na-realize ko (I realized), it will actually help actors and actresses too if you get to work with different people,” she said.

And it does not necessarily mean na wala ka nang relationship with the person na naka-work mo before. Kaya nga this is our job, kaya nga we’re actors and actresses, because it doesn’t have to be real in real life talaga for you to make people feel your emotions, ‘yung kilig.”

(And it does not necessarily mean you don’t have a relationship with the person that you worked with. That’s why in this job, we’re actors and actresses, because it doesn’t have to be real in real life for you to make people feel your emotions, the kilig.)

Jameson on director Jun Lana’s cryptic post

Ang Babaeng Allergic sa Wi-Fi director Jun Lana recently posted a lengthy message on Instagram calling out those who view movies as a mere sideline.

Jun, who also directed Die Beautiful, felt discouraged that some actors had to be pulled out from shooting, after already agreeing to their working hours limit, because they needed to attend to other commitments.

CRYPTIC MESSAGE. Jameson says he understands director Jun Lana's statement on the delay of their movie 'Ang Babaeng Allergic sa Wifi.'

Kaso ganito kagarapal ang showbiz,” the director wrote.

(This is how things work in showbiz: you already agreed to a cut-off and working hour limit, yet they’ll even ask if you can release their talent from the shoot because they have to go to another commitment. If we have any ounce of professionalism, we’ll be ashamed to call filmmaking as just another source of extra income. Unfortunately, that’s how shameless showbiz is.)

(And then we’ll wonder why our movies don’t earn enough? Movies that we didn’t really pour our time in, and treated as just a source of extra income? How arrogant of us to demand the audience to shell out money for a movie that we  simply treated as extra work.)

Jameson, who stars in the movie alongside Sue Ramirez, admitted that the post was, in a way, directed at him and his management.

“Yeah. I think it was kind of [directed at me], but it was mostly coming in the management kasi (because) I’m not the one talking with the staff with [Ang Babaeng Allergic sa]Wi-Fi so it must be between the management and them. So siguro (I guess) somehow connected din ako pero di naman siya direct sa’kin (it was connected to but it was not direct to me).”

While Jun didn’t identify anyone in his post, Jameson hoped that the director understood that the actor does not control his schedule. He added that he’s not a “full time actor” and that the It’s Showtime group Hashtag is his priority.

“He didn’t really pinpoint any name. Siguro (I guess) he understands naman na (that) it’s not really like my fault kasi ‘di ba hindi ko hawak ‘yung schedule ko ( I don’t control my schedule) and everything.”

“I think he knows na I’m not really a full time actor kasi my job is a Hashtag [member]. So may mga raket pa rin kami  (we have other commitments), may Showtime pa rin ako (I also have Showtime), so I think he understands and the same time he wants his movie to be perfect.”

Nevertheless, Jameson insisted that there’s no bad blood on set, saying that he also understood where Jun was coming from.

“Well, siguro (maybe) I should be there for the whole movie and he wants to make his movie really nice so of course I understand that,” he said.

Jameson, however, said what they’re asking for is just a little consideration as some of his projects have been scheduled a month before.

Well, kasi ‘yung ibang kailangan kong gawin naka-book na like, sa past, (the other commitments have been booked )like a month ago, it’s already booked so I really have to do it. The only thing that we ask for is put it into consideration. Konting consideration lang sa time. ‘Ayun lang naman (Just a little consideration in terms of time. That’s it).”
