WATCH: Gary Valenciano getting better after heart surgery
'To all who have prayed for me I thank you from the bottom of this new heart of mine,' Gary writes

MANILA, Philippines – Gary Valenciano said he was “getting better day by day,” days after a heart bypass surgery on Sunday, May 6.

In an Instagram video posted on May 8, Tuesday, the 53-year-old singer said: “I’m getting better day by day. And one of these babalik din ako sa (I’ll be back in) ASAP,  babalik din ako sa (I’ll be back in) Your Face Sounds Familiar and Tawag ng Tanghalan. Paminsan-minsan siguro mag-aabsent just to make sure that I’m in good shape (I guess I’ll be absent every now and then just to make sure that I’m in good shape).”

Gary said that the doctors are happy with how he’s doing and he’s just resting for the moment.

“Still, some way to go ’til I get back to tip top shape. To all who have prayed for me, I thank you from the bottom of this new heart of mine. God bless you more,” he captioned the video.

Gary underwent surgery after discovering a problem in 95 percent of a small portion of his left main coronary artery during a doctor’s check-up. The singer, who has type 1 diabetes, said then that his heart was alright except for the left part.

(Editor’s note: We’ve corrected the details of Gary Valenciano’s diagnosis, as relayed to us by his family.)

His children — Paolo, Gab, and Kiana have shown support as he recovers, posting their special moments with him on their social media accounts.
