‘Hold my butter beer’: Stan Lee tweets about Marvel-Harry Potter ‘crossover’

MANILA, Philippines – Comic book legend Stan Lee tweeted on Sunday, May 27, about a “crossover” of two worlds that have dominated pop culture: Marvel and Harry Potter. 

“Hey @jk_rowling if you ever want me to send Doctor Strange & The X-Men to Hogwarts to teach a few classes, just let me know. I think they could also hold down the fort against Voldemort,” said Stan in a tweet, tagging Harry Potter author JK Rowling. 

But more hilarious than the idea of Doctor Strange working alongside Severus Snape (or Minerva McGonagall, for that matter) were the responses of fans on Twitter. 

This one poked fun at the meme that emerged thanks to the latest Avengers movie, Infinity War:

But of course, someone had to one-up it: 

The Marvel universe – which includes both the comic books and the cinematic versions – encompasses a truck load of superheroes and supervillains. Infinity War showcased a dizzying amount of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stars working together to defeat the biggest threat against the entire universe yet, Thanos. It’s produced by Marvel Studios, a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios.

The X-Men, meanwhile, are not part of the MCU, since 20th Century Fox has movie rights to the characters (though there have long been talks of a Fox-Disney deal). 

Doctor Strange and the X-Men would make a perfect addition to the Harry Potter universe, in theory. The fictional story, after all, takes place mostly in Hogwarts, a wizarding school; Doctor Strange is a sorcerer, while the X-Men have more than enough experience in honing young, brooding, but promising talent. 

So far, however, JK hasn’t responded to Stan’s tweet just yet. Maybe she’s still figuring out the best spell to make it happen?
