Reese Witherspoon, MGM confirm ‘Legally Blonde 3’

MANILA, Philippines – It’s official: Legally Blonde 3 is happening, with a release date set for February 14, 2020.

A few days after reports emerged of a third Legally Blonde film, both MGM Studios and Reese Witherspoon finally confirmed the news on social media.

“Back in Pink in 2020!” MGM tweeted on June 7, adding the hashtag “#LegallyBlonde3.”

Meanwhile, Reese posted a video of her in a pool in the iconic sequined pink bikini that her character Elle Woods wears in the original film.

“It’s true…” she captioned, using the same hashtag as MGM.

According to Variety, Kirsten Smith and Kaern McCullah, who wrote the script for the original Legally Blonde, are being tapped to write the third film as well.

The first Legally Blonde film premiered in 2001, and told the story of Elle, a sorority girl and fashion major, who enters Harvard Law School in a bid to win back her boyfriend Warner. He had dumped her because she wasn’t “serious” enough for his political goals.

The comedy became a cult classic, and spawned a critically-acclaimed musical as well as a critically-panned but box office-hit second film, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde. The film, which follows Elle to Washington DC as she crusades to outlaw animal testing, was Reese’s last appearance as the blonde lawyer.

No details have been released so far on what the plot of the third film will be – but if the ending of Legally Blonde 2 is anything to go by, it may just see Elle Woods heading to the White House. – Rappler.com
