Fans rallied #ForAlden on Twitter – here’s why

MANILA, Philippines — Fans of GMA 7 actor Alden Richards took to Twitter on Monday, May 27 to show their support and appreciation for him, as they made the hashtag #ForAlden trend in the Philippines.

One of the actor’s fan groups, Alden Trendsetter Official, announced the hashtag hours before it topped on Twitter. In a tweet, the group said they made the hashtag to assure the actor that they were behind him in everything he does.

They also explained that it “is an appreciation for all the fans here who love and support passionately, who go out of their way.”

Our hashtag for today is short and sweet, but we do hope that it packs a punch. One, it is to assure you, @aldenrichards02, that we are here for you.

As of 3 pm on May 27, the hashtag was the 4th trending topic in the Philippines.

Reasons for the trend were varied – some tweeted their appreciation for him since his popularity rose from being one half of the AlDub tandem, his return on the Sunday variety show Sunday Pinasaya on May 26, to simply starting their week right.

Alden, who starred in a number of GMA shows, shot to fame in 2015 as one half of the love team AlDub with Maine Mendoza. The tandem was formed by accident, during the “Juan For All, All for Juan” segment on Eat Bulaga. (READ: Maine ‘Yaya Dub’ Mendoza on Alden Richards, newfound fame)

The Aldub love team has since headlined movies, teleseryes, and product endorsements together. The two have since been working on separate projects.
