Robert Downey Jr bares plan to save the planet using technology

MANILA, Philippines – From saving the world in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to… saving the world in this universe. 

Actor Robert Downey Jr announced Tuesday evening, June 4 (early Wednesday, June 5 in the Philippines), a new organization that will use technology “for the good of the environment.” The Footprint Coalition, according to Variety, will launch by April 2020. 

“Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years,” said the actor, best known for playing Iron Man – a “billionaire playboy genius philanthropist” superhero who leads the superhero team The Avengers. 

Downey did not go into detail about just how the new organization would achieve its goal. 

As of posting, the organization’s website is now up but only features a sign up page. “Thanks for your interest in the Footprint Coalition, and for caring about Mother Earth. Sign up for our newsletter and you’ll be the first to know about our next steps on this environmental journey,” it reads.  

Fittingly enough, Variety reports that prior to the announcement, Downey was talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, artificial intelligence, his career, and Tony Stark, among others. – Rappler.com
