Eddie Garcia to be cremated immediately, wake to follow
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Eddie Garcia’s remains have been removed from the Makati Medical Center, and are being transferred to the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City where he will be cremated at 11 pm on Thursday, June 20, his stepson Mikee Romero told media.
Garcia, 90, died at 4:55 pm on June 20.
“From death bed he wants to be cremated, yan din po ang pasya ng nanay namin na ma-cremate po siya ngayong gabi (that was also our mother’s decision, that he will be cremated tonight),” Romero said.
He asked for privacy for his family and Garcia’s close friends during the cremation.
A later announcement sent to Rappler by the family spokesperson Dr. Tony Rebosa said that Garcia’s wake will begin at 3 pm on Friday, June 21 until Sunday, June 23.
(Editor's note: Romero earlier told Rappler that the wake would begin at 9 am, but the family has since changed the schedule.)
“Please continue to pray for the repose of the soul of Mr. Eddie 'Manoy' Garcia even as we now start to celebrate his reunion with the Lord and all his departed loved ones,” the family said.
Romero said that the short wake honors Garcia’s wishes.
“Si Tito Eddie ho doesn’t want a long wake, in fact, he wants it matapos na to sa Sunday (he wants it to be over on Sunday),” he said.
Garcia had been in a coma since June 8, when he was hospitalized after sustaining a cervical spine injury while filming for the GMA-7 teleserye Rosang Agimat. – Rappler.com
