'Descendants of the Sun' stars Song-Song couple file for divorce
MANILA, Philippines – Korean actor Song Joong-ki has filed for divorce from his wife, fellow Korean star Song Hye-kyo, Korean media reported Thursday, June 27.
According to Soompi, lawyer Park Jae-hyun, who represents Song Joong-ki, announced on Thursday, June 27, that his firm filed for divorce before the Seoul Family Court on June 26.
In a statement, Song Joong-ki apologized to fans for the "unfortunate news."
"I have begun the process of filing for divorce from Song Hye Kyo. Rather than denouncing one another and arguing over who is to blame, I hope that the divorce process can be wrapped up amicably," he said.
"I ask for your understanding in regards to the fact that it is difficult to discuss the details of my personal life, and I will recover from my current wounds and do my utmost as an actor to repay you through great productions in the future," he added.
Just a month ago, the actor had spoken affectionately about his wife as he promoted his newest series, Arthdal Chronicles. But for a while, rumors had persisted that their marriage was on the rocks.
